I'm glad he is here and represents OSU. He embrace Corvallis, Beaver nation and OSU. Sure he has flaws but so do most coaches. Good man, good family & I think we are in good hands for BB. We will have up and down years but I for one am all in with all 3 major men's coaches. We have our guys!

Agreed on all your points, however, I feel we lack a solid recruiter on the basketball staff. I am far from having insider knowledge, just looking at recent results. Does my ‘feel’ have any merit?

It is nice to see this positive post. I too believe the b-ball program is in good hands. I have had the opportunity to meet Coach Tinkle in person and found him to be very friendly and a great representative of OSU - even inviting me to knock on his door if I was in Gill sometime.

Agreed about being a great guy, and all in for OSU. Unfortunately those don't make you a great coach. If they did, Jimmy would have been a great success.
1-8 2-7 0-9
Must improve on the road.

And, here comes Debby Downer! The team is getting better....let it play out And, Jimmy had some other issues including a couple of players flunking out and a player dying.

"must improve"... those are actual numbers of seasons "played out"... every coach has "issues" included multiple players leaving the program, point made was good guy doesn't equal good coach.

I think Jimmy Andersen set the program back 25 years.

It's just baseba1111. Winning always puts him in a bad mood.

There are few great coaches in college and I would say there are zero "great" coaches in the PAC-12. Hell...I would say Few is the only great coach west of the Mississippi. But yes, he needs to improve on the road. But I am all in with Tinkle!

I agree about the road...even 3-6 or 4-5 is acceptable in a conference where there are few gimmees (I’d say that homecourt is a +10 advantage for most everyone in our league). If you’re going to be a serious contender in the PAC for significant postseason play, you have to be around 7-2 at home and 3-6 on the road (go 10-8 any way you can). If you can’t get a few on the road it puts enormous pressure on us to win them all in Gill (that’s how we danced in GP2’s senior year). Everyone has a rough night sometime, even at home, especially with the Arizona and LA schools coming in, and we’ve already let one get away against the Utes. Definitely not the recommended way to try to do it.

Coach Gottlieb is a solid recruiter. While at Cal he landed Alan Crabbe and Jorge Gutierrez so he has resume'.....knows the AAU circuit and high school coaches who count.

I'm on the fence. Please no long-term extensions based on a .500 record. No one will be after Tink after this season. When he becomes a commodity others are interested in it will be time to give him a raise and an extension. I'd be all-in with Tink at this performance level if he made $100k/year, but when you are one of the highest paid public employees in the state I expect better records, better attendance and better recruiting. Being nice is a bonus not a requirement.

Being nice is a bonus not a requirement. Tinkle makes just slightly over 1 million a year in year 4 of his contract. Something like $1.15 million. That makes him one of the lowest paid coaches in the Pac-12. Altman makes more than double his salary, as does Alford and Miller (not saying they shouldn't...) Point is, if you are tying Tinkle to value... we are already basically at bargain basement prices.
