Troy Trojans come to town Friday. They beat the always powerful Ft Lauderdale Eagles 92-47 in their first game. Should be a much sterner test than Linfield even though they return only 5 players and 35% of their scoring. They have a senior starting backcourt and much better size than Beavers faced yesterday. Troy also has had consecutive 20 win seasons. Looking forward to the game to get a better read on the new players.

Looks like they play 3 forwards quite a bit at the same time.
Will be interesting to see their game tomorrow

Troy likes to shoot 3s and they don’t like to play defense. They foul a lot.
Their guards take by far the majority of the shots.
They don’t really play a true center.
They want to go up and down the court rather quickly.
Ohio lead pretty much wire to wire. Both respectable Mid major teams last year.
Beavs should bear Troy.

I'm going. This year my wife has just booked a motel room for two nights on Football weekends. We've seen women's volleyball, women's soccer, and now this weekend men's BBall. We've discovered the Angry Beaver, and rediscovered Squirrel's. Been a good time. Game is over by 6, see you downtown around 7.

Tuesday brings Appalachian State into Gill Coliseum. The Beavers should again be favored over this 1-1 squad (.500 last year also) that lost to Northern Illinois last night 91-78.
Team basically went 8 deep against NIU. The squad is led by 6-3 Sr Donavan Gregory , who had 17 points Saturday and averaged double figures in points last 3 seasons. Their frontline has some height but not much bulk. 6-9 Soph Justin Abson had 11 pts, 7 rebs against the Huskies, while 6-11 Sr CJ Huntley chipped in 14 points in 15 minutes. Trevon Spillers, a JC transfer, supplies some height (6-7) and rebounding (9 against NIU) off the bench.
Doesn’t appear the team is overly reliant on the 3, taking 19 against NIU and averaging 23 taken last year. 6-3 starter Terence Harcum seems to be one of the threats, shooting 36% from 3 on way to 12 ppg last year — though he was only 1-5 on Saturday. Christopher Mantis, a 6-7 junior off the bench is their other long-range shooter. He’s 36% from 3 on his career and 7 of 17 in two games this year.
Always seems like in these kind of games someone not prominent in the scouting report has a big game (e.g. Dowd last game). Guards Myles Tate and Xavion Brown aren’t big scorers (Tate is a career 30% shooter) but can impact a game in other ways. Tate is the only other transfer on the team, arriving from Butler and being installed right into the starting lineup. He started 18 games as a freshman, averaging 6.7 ppg and finishing first on team in steals and second in assists. Unfortunately he tore his ACL during Big East tourney that year and played sparingly for the Bulldogs over next 2 seasons. Against NIU Tate was 1 for 7 from field but had 4 rebs, 2 assists and 2 steals in 21 minutes. In first 2 games, Brown is proving to be another potential stat book stuffer. He has only averaged 1.5 ppg in 17.5 mpg off the bench but 5 rpg, 4.5 apg and 1 spg.
Can Beavers take down a second straight team from the Sun Belt? App St is projected to be better than Troy (picked 2nd in preseason coaches poll to Troy’s 8th), so are we looking at 4 OTs? Looking forward to getting some more data points on this year’s players — and, of course, a W.

Holiday Inn a few blocks North of the bridge. A little step up from some of the others there, though we have stayed in those too, and they were fine.

Haven't been inside a room at the refurbished Hotel Corvallis (Towne House) but I've heard they are nice. It's really convenient to downtown bars and restaurants and an easy walk to the stadium.

Yeah, that is the perfect downtown location. I stayed there once, about 50 years ago, in Corvallis for my cousin's wedding. Another cousin and I went to the theater nearby and watched Willie Wonka and the Chocolate Factory. So, no, I am not a good judge of the rooms there now.

It is completely remodeled and is pretty nice. The rooms are also larger than newer hotel rooms. The current owners have put a lot of $$ into it. It is much nicer than it was 10 years ago.

Nebraska is up next and the burning question is which team will wake up Sunday still undefeated. Neither team has had much to cheer about the last two seasons, so maybe this game will signal a turning of the corner for one of the teams.
The Cornhuskers were 16-16 overall and 9-11 in the B1G, both fairly significant improvements over Fred Hoiberg’s first 3 seasons at the helm. The team lost 3 of its top 5 scorers from last year, but did a good job of restocking, primarily through the portal. Two of this year’s top 4 scorers are returners, though both had a late start to the season.
Juwan Gary, a 6-6 F who transferred from Alabama last season, missed the first 3 games due to suspension, but returned last game against Stony Brook to score a career high 19 points off the bench. One game a season does not make, but that’s more than 10 points over his season average last year. Keisei Tominaga is back from an ankle injury and scored 16 in his second game back. This exuberant 3-pt shooter (40% last year) is a player opposing teams’ fans love to hate.
The transfers are led by Rienk Mast from Bradley. The 6-10 big man is averaging 14.8 ppg and 10.8 rpg as well as 3apg. The 6-7 Brice Williams is averaging 13 ppg, just shade less than last year at Charlotte. The lifetime 40% 3-pt shooter we be a handful for the Beavers.
This is a deep and experienced Nebraska team with 8 players averaging 20+ minutes per game and 2 more in double figures. In their 84-63 victory over Stony Brook, 6 players played 23+ minutes with 3 more getting double figure minutes. Nebraska hasn’t exactly played a murderers row thus far, but that 63 points was the most scored upon them this year. And the key to a victory for the Beavers could be keeping the Huskers off the board. Over the last 3 games, Hoiberg’s squad has out rebounded its opponents by 50 while corralling 42 offensive boards.
On paper this certainly looks like the Beavers toughest opponent to date. Unfortunately for me, with the game being on Peacock I won’t be able to see first hand if they can rise to the occasion and come out on top.
Go Beavs

You can travel to Sioux Falls or Sanford (I think that's the name of the town where the arena is located). I saw the team at the airport this morning. They fly commercial.
