First, Glenn Taylor Jr leaves for 'greener pastures', now an assistant coach leaves because OSU isn't competetive regarding NIL recruiting acquisition and retention. More evidence that the Beavers MBB program is at a huge disadvantage with the rest of college basketball (but most of us already knew that).

OSU's basketball problems are simply because of Tinkle. I learned that here, so it has to be so.

"I can't recruit unless I can pay kids," is what it's coming down to.
Making me less and less interested in college basketball.

"Shelton felt the Beavers evolved from a coach-driven team early in the season to a player-driven squad later in the year."
Huh.

I was disappointed when the current Beaver NIL collective said they wouldn't be offering NIL money for new recruits. How long can they adhere to that nonstarter? I'd rather them say: "We intend to gather as much NIL money as possible so that we can compete and acquire 4 star kids in football, MBB and WBB." That is the gauntlet I want them to throw down on. Get some stones and do it.

Frankly, if they could raise money for player retention, big money, there might be a bunch of kids willing to sign that think they've got what it takes to get a big "paycheck" down the line. I hate the idea of paying big bucks to a kid who might not pan out, I hate the idea of another school swiping our kids once they prove themselves more.

NIL will be changing soon. Those donations to NIL collectives aren’t tax deductible anymore. That is a big advantage for the rich alumni to donate to it.

Huh. That's what you want. Leadership from the players....we certainly didn't have that in 2021.

I mean....this probably isn't anything that recruits don't already know - You can get more money by going elsewhere. This was the reality before NIL, it's still the reality now. Just stings to have a coach put it out there in print for everyone to see.

And to think the NIL started because some jerseys were being sold and the athlete wasn't getting a cut. It's way out of control and not going as intended.

I wonder how Smith competes with similar limitations.Hmmm. coaching? There are more than 200 schools that can offer big NIL money in basketball because they don't play RBS football, or play football at all. So competition is even tougher. Heard that Taylor got about $100k from St. John's. They don't play football so any money they have can be directed toward hoops. We can't give Taylor $100,000 (nor should we have). Smith is not "operating with similar limitations." Football has NIL money.
