A few questions: Is Colorado states NIL that much better? Is CSU NIL better in relation to the athlete they compete to get compared to our NIL and who we hope to get? Is the NIL the real reason he is leaving? Ron Harge will sign his autograph on something for you for $50 dollars opendorse.com/coloradostate-rams Don't know how that compares with what he was getting here. Edit: Dang, the link doesn't work, but it's there. Just put Colorado State in the search bar on the broken page, it'll show. Looks like OSU also has opendorse set up for their players. 50 dolla will make you holla!

Being a parent with 3 kids in college, I take offense to Shelton’s uneducated comment that most of the kids are playing for next to nothing.

The Tim Shelton approach to professional advancement. Glad to see Barnes and Tinkle respond forcefully.

Is the NIL the real reason he is leaving? I mean Jarod Lucas got an ~$100k NIL deal from Nevada, more than OSU was able to give him. Doesn't look great when we're getting beaten out by MWC schools for some of the better players in the conference/country including the ones currently on our roster.

The WSU coach said $1M to $1.5M is needed in the PAC. I remember the numbers exactly but I don't remember the exact text - maybe "to be competitive."

And to think the NIL started because some jerseys were being sold and the athlete wasn't getting a cut. It's way out of control and not going as intended. Exactly! The court case wasn’t P2P. Yeah, if the NCAA had gotten its head out of its a$$ and gotten out in front of NIL, things might be better. At least there would likely be some kind of rules. Instead it planted its flag on the amateurism hill and state legislatures got involved, and now we have the Wild West.

View AttachmentThe Tim Shelton approach to professional advancement. Glad to see Barnes and Tinkle respond forcefully. Not really sure why Shelton decided to lob out a few grenades on his way out the door. I didn’t really think the school’s response was all that strong though. Good they did come out with something at least. To not address it sure wouldn’t have helped the NIL collective’s efforts.

Stop trying to kill the messenger here, if Beaver Nation wants to be competitive moving forward it is a P2P environment. Right now not having resources is a competitive disadvantage- and will impact every sport in the future- especially with the demise of the PAC-12. So, if you want to find good recruits, don’t make it a barrier that other schools are offering NIL money and we are offering nothing. Not realistic to believe that some kid will give up significant money just to put on the black and orange…

We lost Jarod Lucas to Nevada for $100,000 NIL. We lost Glenn Taylor Jr to St Johns for $150,000 NIL. Our OSU NIL collective has gone on record stating they refuse to pay NIL to help land new recruits. Tim Shelton could have left in silence but he didn't, he gave his reasons (maybe out of frustration or as a warning to Beaver Nation). Does the Colorado State MBB program have a better NIL system than OSU? Considering we don't have one, it's entirely possible. The OSU MBB program can't afford losses from the likes of Jarod Lucas and Glenn Taylor Jr. Until things change (NIL for MBB recruiting), Beaver MBB will continue to fall further behind.

Not realistic to believe that some kid will give up significant money just to put on the black and orange… We've been at a competitive disadvantage since 1915, so let's not act like NIL is some sort of game-changer here. I once heard a radio interview with a Pac-12 personality (I forget who) but he broke it down like this: If you had an offer to every Pac-12 school and all things were equal, how many people are picking Oregon State or Washington State? I LOVE this university. I'm a 4th generation Beaver...but at 18 if I had a full ride to any school in the conference I could probably guess I would've chosen to go elsewhere. I probably wouldn't have been the right decision, but it's the decision I would've made at the time. I'm sure other schools will use Shelton's words to recruit negatively against us.....but let's be honest here, they were already doing it.

Not having Jarod Lucas as a 3 pt weapon last year was a game changer for OSU. Not having Glenn Taylor Jr for upcoming seaon is a game changer for OSU. Taylor and Pope were the 2 best players on the team and they couldn't afford to lose either one, so, yeah, game changer.

I don’t think they need to use Shelton’s words to recruit negatively. Recruits/transfers find out soon enough what OSU’s NIL capabilities are.
If it makes anyone feel any better, my Illini have a pretty strong NIL program and fans frustrated about recruiting too. Not really with HS kids, but in getting strong transfers in. Of course, NIL was able to get its two best players to pass on draft and come back.

It's a tough situation to be in. It sounds wise to offer a starter 150k to stay and not go to another school or enter the draft, I'd think most kids would stick around with that... but then you are basically setting a base salary for your best players and risk losing kids who think they're getting slighted by not getting a specific $$ commitment that matches their expectations. Losing those two players to teams with better NIL situations stung, but after Jared left, the Beavs nearly tripled their win total year to year. Not saying they nearly tripled their win total because of Jared leaving, but saying having a kid leave doesn't necessarily mean for a bleaker future. We'll see this year if the program continues making strides without Taylor in the fold.
To a certain extent, I don't particularly worry if the occasional 3 star recruit has success here and moves on to a better deal... but when it gets to being the norm it'll be an issue. I'm hoping this a bit of a wakeup call to both the athletic department as far as support for the basketball program goes, and to fans/donors who might be holding back support in donation dollars or season ticket purchases simply because they don't care for our head coach.
OSU may have been at a long time disadvantage, but NIL exacerbates that disadvantage.
