.That's a bit of a shock. Wouldn't be surprised to see him at an SEC school like Troy Claunch. Big Ten. Ann Arbor. That's the rumor. Tyler Graham connection ?

totally agree. If faced with very good pitching, i.e. SEC (as an eligible grad)....or the low minors (though it's unlikely he'd get drafted, or be offered a FA contract)...it would be surprising if he thrived. His OPS 'progression': Freshman: .709 (limited AB's) Summer after FR season (WCL): .507 Soph: .487 Junior: .612 I'm excited to see a new chapter at SS for the Beavs. Hopefully (likely) there will be several candidates. It would be great if Kyle's departure influenced an incoming Freshman to choose college over signing. All in all, SS could be: Trosky, Kane (several games there in 2023, allowing Guerra at 3rd?), Bazzana (tho' I think 2B is where he belongs), Dawson Santana, Reeve Boyd, Caraway (dreaming), or Frankly, any of those are more exciting to me than Dernedde. I really miss Cadyn Grenier. like your choice of Caraway, but his draft projection puts him around 3 million dollar signing bonus. Hard to turn that down. Far as what we have - Kane maybe, would allow another bat in the lineup. Trosky and Bazanna don’t have the arm and Jabin looks overmatched at the plate. Maybe one of the new guys will be cadyn part 2. 🙏 I can return some beer cans for a start on the 3 million dollar NIL. I will try to drink more if it helps the cause or even if it doesnt.

Big Ten. Ann Arbor. That's the rumor. Tyler Graham connection ? I mean didn't Graham coach Fall Ball in 2019, Kyle Dernedde's first year? Graham was a coach in the WCL thereafter against Dernedde.

I am betting that Reeve Boyd is next years Kavin Keyes (i.e. Freshman to burst on the scene with a surprisingly great season), I base this mostly on the fact that he is going to major in Mathematics... My type of guy!

My type of guy! He's off to a good start for Wenatchee, 11-33, 2 2B (didn't get credit for a 3rd), 1 HR, .961 OPS, more walks than strikeouts.

The shortstops on our CWS teams:
2005-07: Darwin Barney
2013: Tyler Smith
2017-18: Cadyn Grenier
We're not getting there with Kyle Dernedde.

You’re right since he’s apparently not going to be on the team next year. He wasn’t the reason the team didn’t go this year though, so I’m not sure what your point is. Lots of very good players never make it to the CWS and lots of average players do.

It's one of the most important positions on the field. We need a serious upgrade.

Are you saying that you can hide a .240 batter with a lot of strikeouts in a different position and it's not as much of an issue as if it was the shortstop?

"Not so fast my friend" Lee Corso ESPN Gameday
Dernedde is in the Portal but unless MC has informed him OSU doesn't have a roster spot for him next year, he can return to the Beavers. Usually a portal entry means the athlete is looking to transfer but not always. Sometimes guys "test the waters" just to see what might be out there for them in terms of playing opportunity and NIL money.
The Beavs don't have a sure thing replacement at SS but do have several good options with athletes that have played the position well previously - Kane, Trosky, Macias, Caraway, Boyd, and if pitching doesn't work out, A.J. Hutcheson. I would guess we would see some open competition to claim that position. I would expect to see that even if Dernedde returned.
We could even see Wilky take a few fungos this fall.

Its mildly correlation but a large part of it is total AB. SS is the position that tends to be the least platooned on defense. A solid SS will lead the team in AB unless injuries occur. Even catchers are platooned more than SS.
