So, the PAC is having trouble finding other appropriate schools as possible members and trouble garnering a new TV contract....Well, maybe the PAC should stop thinking defensively and (try) to really shake things up in their favor: Specifically, can NOTRE DAME can be tempted into joining the PAC?
Sure, it's almost unthinkable that ND would even consider such a move, but look at the immediate advantages ND and the PAC would gain by such a move: (1) ND would immediately be the "Big Dog" in a Power-5 conference with a far easier path to the FB playoffs, especially with the likely expansion of the playoff field; (2) with the addition of ND, the PAC and ND would likely be able to attract a more lucrative TV package. Also, the PAC would immediately be more attractive to other more prestigious schools who might then be tempted to join the PAC.
Finally.... I'm not naive-- the likelihood that ND would even consider such a move is vanishingly small. But maybe the time has come for everyone to start thinking "outside the box."

We could ask, but they'll say no. Reports last summer they were looking for $60-75M annually for their tv contract (up in 2025). Everything I've read expects the Pac-12 deal to be in the $30M per school range.

Everything I've read expects the Pac-12 deal to be in the $30M per school range. $30/school. That's without Notre Dame. What about with? My nominees: UBC, Utah State, Colorado State, San Diego State, Nevada-Reno, San Diego State, Fresno State, San Jose State. Get all of them.

Very interesting! How about two twelve team divisions (North and South?). Strength in numbers! Thanks for the post-and for thinking outside the box!

Where is NBC in all of this? They televise ND. And that is it. Why?
Why are they never mentioned as a serious player in CFB media contract talk? Is it by choice?

Just maybe they own some other entity that already has a college football media contract?
Excellent observation on your part!

I have no issues with SMU being in the league. They have the one-of-a-kind distinction of being the only school who's mascot has killed another school's mascot. Not that that should be a prerequisite for entry into the league, just found it interesting.

Still seems like small potatoes for such a huge TV entity. If they show 1 Big10 game, and the ND game, that leaves room for at least 1 more game on each Saturday, if not 2 more. Maybe some late night Pac12 action would interest the network?

I keep thinking Nebraska could be a great add. There's a lot of tradition and highly competitive in some Olympic sports as well. And there's a built-in rival in Colorado. I don't know how locked in with the Big Ten Nebraska is but maybe they want out from being an also-ran to Ohio State and Michigan (and more in recent years). Add Nebraska, San Diego State and/or come to an agreement with the Big 12. Of course, money is always the biggest concern.

Not really...that's why I made the edit, but you beat me to it, ha ha. Unfortunately, the options for the Pac-12 will be very limited unless they pull off some great deal that most of us don't really see coming. I'm really just spitballing at this point.

I don’t see it from ND’s point of view.

I don’t see it from ND’s point of view. Maybe if Pac 12 pays ND 100M then splits the other 250M amongst the other 11 or 13 teams
