Headed to West Albany for the rest of her high school career. Interesting that it is a linear transfer---both schools compete at the 5A level. You would think she might want the challenge of facing 6A competition to further her development as a D1 prospect, but there are no 6A schools in Corvallis or Albany. She would have to commute to Salem or Eugene for that opportunity. Maybe West Albany has better championship prospects upcoming and or better coaching than CV ? And if you follow high school girls basketball in Oregon, the only great 6a team within 80 miles of philomath is Willamette. West Salem is ok, but that Salem league is awful. MWC had at least two, if not three teams better than West Salem last year. There are other transfers going to West Albany to go with a young group. The Albany rivalry games the next few years should be fun to watch!

It does sound like coach Stinson has been doing some recruiting then, as rgeorge speculated previously, to surround Payton with some good players to make a run at the 5A state championship in the next 2-3 years!

High school teachers who also coach don’t really get involved in recruiting kids. The risk far outweighs the reward. But kids definitely look for great opportunities to potentially do special things.
Which is why the Beavs women’s team breaking up the elite 8 group is so disheartening. They had that special group right there and it somehow wasn’t good enough. Still a tough pill to swallow…

HS coaches (many sports), who teach, "recruit" all the time, and have since I played in HS.
It's not like typical college recruiting. But, they show "interest" in numerous ways. They coach traveling teams and make tons of connections with players and parents. They coach at camps... team and individual... and again make tons of connections. Summer programs are rife with recruiting kids.
Of course district transfer rules come into play. But, they are seldom a issue for those truly wanting to play for a coach or program.
Plus, parents are the other great recruiters of players. Coaches typically are not adverse to get "help" in terms of talent. Don't know Stinson, do know WA. The issue there is not pissing off the wrong parent or group if PT of their kid is in jeopardy.
And, it's no accident players just "end up" at certain schools. There are tons of talented players, somehow someone is deciding which "school" is best for their kid, and someone is happy for the addition.
AAA Legion ball is big on getting players, boundary changes/school inclusions, etc. Some of those miraculously end up and the base school. Dick McClain and Corvallis Richey's Market were notorious for suddenly having Newport in their region!
There has been little if any downside I've ever heard of. There is hardly any enforceable rules, and it's easy to just pass it off as a normal family situation.
Recruiting allegations, players living arrangements/addresses, and rumors have always been around for decades. And, coaches have been very much involved. Very, very few of the, thousands, over decades, have resulted in adverse effects.

The number of players that moved to Oregon City to play for Brad Smith was disgusting. Ok, I feel better.

I just meant that it’s not typical for a HS coach who also teaches to openly recruit kids. They of course aren’t going to complain when athletes end up coming their way.

Am I the only one who remembers CHS losing a state title because of the kid from Alaska coming to play and someone from Albany (still haven't been able to sess out who) called the state and bye bye CHS season? And no he didn't transfer to play, it was just for school. If I remember right he just barely got into games.

I was a little kid and may not have the facts correct. But for the 1973 football season, a Medford player, who thought he should start, didn't and immediately transferred to Grants Pass. He was a popular kid and a couple of his friends went with him. It was an enormous deal. High school sports were more important then and it was in an era where those two schools had annual graduation classes of over 1000 or close to it.

She'll do a lot better than Arkansas. Unfortunate for us.

She'll do a lot better than Arkansas. Unfortunate for us. I can tell you that she doesn’t view it that way. Whatever situation feels like the best fit with style of play, coaching, atmosphere, history of success and where the best opportunity to be herself is where she’ll end up.

Make an impact on Div. I basketball from day one.......Perhaps.....
OK, let's see. It's now the summer before she begins her Sophomore year in h.s. Her skeleton likely is still growing, her acne likely is lingering, her thinking skills are about 4 years out of childhood, she probably has not had her first knee rip, and even by the Grace of God she cannot begin to comprehend the cultural mess known as Fayetteville!!
I wish her good luck. But I also suggest she consult a geneticist, hire an editor, and send us an ambition update in 2 years. GO BEAVS!!

She'll find someplace better than Arkansas in all those measurables.
