Yeah, it's funny how many biotch and moan about Phil, Oregon, and the being bought and paid for. Yet, that's exactly what they want from some rich OSU donor for OSU. Reminds me, as a recovering Mariners fan, of my Hatred of the Yankees and George Steinbrenner... While wondering and bemoaning, and would happily accept Howard Schultz or Bill Gates or Steve Ballmer or Jeff Bezos dumping a billion dollars or two into the mariners pockets (Oh and also ignoring sugar daddy Nintendo saving the Mariners and making them at least a middle spending team and no longer a bottom spender) Fans are not rational, nor should they necessarily be I have been a Mariners fan since the beginning. Their first pitching coach, Wes Stock, was from my small hometown (300 people then) and was friends with my parents. So I come by it honestly. And, of course, being an Ms fan all that time has meant struggling through bad teams and/or frustration. But you’re either a fan or you’re not, which is how I feel about the Beavers.

People who aren't knowledgeable or just don't pay attention to the cyclical nature of sports will always be disappointed. Realignment or not OSU baseball was never going to stay Omaha caliber forever. Folks can blame or speculate but it's just the way it goes. To top it off its much much more difficult to stay on top than to get there. Baseball will hang tough, but there are more & more highly competitive programs and good staffs. I'm not sure how many Omahas are in the program's future, but it doesn't mean it will not be a quality program. If Supers and Omaha is the measuring stick then lots of folks are going to be disappointed. Having the richest sports donor in the country 40 mins down the road writing Blank checks to the ditch pigeons..meanwhile, our mega rich alum is an engineer who apparently doesn't care about sports! You have to laugh .... The womens b ball team mass Exodus..... disappointing Milk maid bailing on us for a mid level big 10 school with unrealistic expectations......yep Men's basketball??? The one thing we have had.....well not the only thing, but you know what I mean, is baseball. And now we are putting together a reconstructed Pac 12 that is looking like a shadow if it's former self, especially for baseball.... I'm all in, but I reserve the right to be disappointed I know little about such things, except that if Omaha isn’t the goal every year, the program will quickly decline. Omaha needs to be on the breaths of every player, coach, and fan. We can’t be content with falling short. Expect more. It’s how the big programs operate Year in and year out. And in baseball, we are a big program.

Unlike the fans of the green & yellow, real Beaver fans don't jump off the bandwagon when adversity arrives. True OSU Beaver fans would be uncomfortable if there was little to no adversity in our sports programs. I for one think our Athletic Director, the OSU President, and now the current PAC-12 Commissioner are running a great rebuilding campaign given the adversity they face. The PAC-12 (and OSU Athletics) will be stronger for it.

A bit similar in my house. The first Seahawks coach, Jack Patera, went to Washington HS on SE 12th in Portland. My dad was not friends with him in adulthood, but said Patera was a year ahead of him in high school when my dad was a reserve lineman and Patera was the star.

You are aware that Jensen Huang went to Stanford for his Masters, right??? en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jensen_HuangKnight and Huang have literally the same exact educational path: BS in the state of Oregon (Electrical Engineering vs Business) Masters at Stanford (MS EE vs MBA) Yeah, it's funny how many biotch and moan about Phil, Oregon, and the being bought and paid for. Yet, that's exactly what they want from some rich OSU donor for OSU. Look, I don't want the endless money like hole has......it's not about that. Just enough so we're not hearing from Barnes "there's gonna have to be some hard decisions in the AD." Uncle Phil money is obscene......thats not bitching, and moaning. The guy is LITERALLY trying to buy a national championship in football.

I spose mlb would rather have Arod on the Yankees for eyes on TV's. The NFL does it with parity.

I think his grandson Robert, pitched and caught for USC sometime in this century. www.baseball-reference.com/boxes/WS2/WS2196204210.shtml

One of Wes’s sons was a pro soccer player, and I think that same son owned the Wild Waves water park on I-5 between Tacoma and Seattle for several years. As for Wes, his big day in MLB was in May, 1963, when he won both games of a doubleheader against the Indians. I wrote about this here: sabr.org/gamesproj/game/may-26-1963-orioles-wes-stock-wins-both-games-of-doubleheader/
