And (IMHO) there is no way teams would leave their current conference(s) without the promise of league-wide competition in all sports. Fresno and SDSU and Gonzaga and UNLV (if they come) will expect there to be a viable NCAA-recognized Pac-12 Conference in baseball, with an automatic NCAA berth rewarding the winner.
They are not going to join us and then hang their baseball programs out to dry, with no league to compete in. We'll be fine and will have plenty of OOC games to build our RPI.
I've always believed our program attracts the players we get, not the conference we play in.

There are multiple factors in recruiting. Playing in a premier conference, against the best competition is a big draw. Playing in cold, wet Corvallis, in a lesser Pac 12, is bound to hit the program negatively. How bad will it hurt? Not sure. How much less money will be ear marked for baseball when our AD has to make cuts? Will we get money from our major league guys? Will someone with deep pockets poach Canham? There are a lot of questions to be answered yet. Pardon my pessimism.....thought the women's basketball program would withstand this, and it completely fell apart. Not apples to apples, but I think anything is possible, and the baseball program is not guaranteed to weather this storm.

On the baseball board, there's a great interview with Pat Casey, and they were reminiscing about how incredible west coast baseball was 20-30 years ago. Now, Casey is downright depressed at how the west coast greats like USC, ASU, Stanford, and UCLA have been overtaken and overshadowed by the SEC. A case could be made that we are now carrying the mantle for west coast baseball. We are the only team in recent memory to knock off an SEC team to win a national championship. I honestly think our stature in baseball is greater than anybody on the west coast right now, except maybe Stanford. We are the draw, not who we play. (At least for now....we gotta get back to Omaha soon if we're gonna keep it this way...)

The program that has won 3 World Series titles, had 2 guys drafted #1, many more players that get a shot in the bigs, and peerless fan support. That’s why they want to come here. You can’t make comparisons to the women’s hoop team. They didn’t wait for it to play out. Might have been very different.

Demonstrating its commitment to athletic excellence, Utah State University Athletics launched Reach and Rise, its inaugural comprehensive capital campaign earlier this year. With a goal to raise $125 million over the next five years, the campaign is dedicated to advancing the success of Aggie Athletics, supporting over 400 student-athletes across 16 varsity programs in the realm of modern college athletics. The university is off to a promising start, having already secured nearly $21 million.
Smart move. I know it's tough to go back to the boosters after hitting everyone up for the stadium, for the baseball building and for the proposed Olympic locker room complex down by the track/soccer/softball facilities, but this is a great idea.
Put most of it into an endowment, watch it grow, and start becoming financially sustainable.

The Utah St add was out of left field. Credit to them regarding their decade of competitiveness. The PAC might think back and wish they had UNLV and Gonzaga/Hawaii (football) - and maybe saved some poaching money (Hawaii’s exit fee is $3.5MM, not sure the poaching fee). We’ll see what tomorrow brings. “A Mountain West school that seceded a year or more ahead of June 30, 2026, would have to pay a steep exit fee. For 11 schools, that fee is $17 million. But as a football-only member, UH’s exit fee would be about $3.5 million. Blangiardi said his group’s priority is for UH’s football team to receive a Pac-12 invitation. Whether UH’s other sports, most of which compete in the Big West, also would have to join would be left to Pac-12’s terms and conditions.” www.staradvertiser.com/2024/09/24/sports/sports-breaking/blangiardi-assembles-team-to-try-to-gain-admittance-into-pac-12-for-hawaii-football/

The championships, and the draft picks are great......but you made a great point that proves that nothing is guaranteed. USC won 5 championships in a row in the 70's. Now, I think we are positioned to weather the storm. The program is strong. Player development is obviously strong. Two #1 overalls in pretty quick succession.......that will give us time. Accolades fade over time. All I'm saying is our previous accomplishments don't mean that we will stay on top. Again, we are in a cold, northern, non traditional baseball powerhouse position. I trust the leadership to go big, and fight to keep the program a national ball club.....I'm also preparing myself for the program to fade.....maybe it's the Beav in me who's used to being disappointed ☹️

Realignment or not OSU baseball was never going to stay Omaha caliber forever. Folks can blame or speculate but it's just the way it goes. To top it off its much much more difficult to stay on top than to get there. Baseball will hang tough, but there are more & more highly competitive programs and good staffs. I'm not sure how many Omahas are in the program's future, but it doesn't mean it will not be a quality program. If Supers and Omaha is the measuring stick then lots of folks are going to be disappointed.

Having the richest sports donor in the country 40 mins down the road writing Blank checks to the ditch pigeons..meanwhile, our mega rich alum is an engineer who apparently doesn't care about sports! You have to laugh .... The womens b ball team mass Exodus..... disappointing Milk maid bailing on us for a mid level big 10 school with unrealistic expectations......yep Men's basketball??? The one thing we have had.....well not the only thing, but you know what I mean, is baseball. And now we are putting together a reconstructed Pac 12 that is looking like a shadow if it's former self, especially for baseball.... I'm all in, but I reserve the right to be disappointed

While wondering and bemoaning, and would happily accept Howard Schultz or Bill Gates or Steve Ballmer or Jeff Bezos dumping a billion dollars or two into the mariners pockets (Oh and also ignoring sugar daddy Nintendo saving the Mariners and making them at least a middle spending team and no longer a bottom spender) Fans are not rational, nor should they necessarily be
