July 25 - -
Regarding feature story in today's O sports page..... -----------------------
I've heard 8th graders in the Principal's office come up with more believable acts of contrition. As far as Coach Smith's departure goes, it's simple: He saw. He liked. He bolted. He just forgot to say goodbye and thank you as he left. Especially thank you.
Lack of civility towards those who look up to you and admire you is not corrected when you say, Yeah, I lacked civility. Apology not accepted. GO BEAVS!!

Can't wait for Johnny boy to use his analytics prowess and run a fake field goal from the 16 with your fleet footed kicker as the runner. What a freakin moron. One of the worst calls ever. Good luck msu you will need it. And what made it even worse is that it was the second time that he had tried it during the game. The first was negated by a penalty, so the other team knew what was coming.

Like I've been saying, he never was a true Beav. He used OSU as a stepping stone. He's always gonna be that walk on nobody wanted. Massive chip on milk maids shoulder. He's trying to get to the top of the heap by any means necessary. We (I was anyway) were naive to think he was ever going to stay in Corvallis. I think he was looking for his next opportunity as soon as he knew his success at OSU was going to open up options for him.
Whatever comes out of his mouth is canned coach speak. I don't think his act is going to play out in the B1G......but he's getting paid. He'll have a nice bank account when he's fired from MSU, and gets hired as the OC at a community college in LA.

I know you're bitter and I share that too, but I do think that Smith's career opportunities will still be solid even if MSU fires him. He has a good resume and has studied under a number of talented head coaches. I don't think he "used" OSU. I think it was a mutually beneficial relationship for us both, and I don't believe that OSU showed Smitty some particular special loyalty that turns this into more of a stab-in-the-back situation. In my opinion, for Oregon State the narrative should and always will be: He panicked and bailed when we needed him most.Does this make him a spineless jellyfish of a man? Honestly no - but did he pass up a chance to be a hero, a legend? Did he pass up a chance to be cast in bronze on campus? Emphatically, yes.
Someday he will be welcomed back on campus, but make no mistake, he will never ever ever be a Dennis Erickson to us, will never be as beloved as Dee Andros or Mike Riley. He's just a man, who had the chance to be so much more, but chose not to. He took the easy way out.
And hey, so would most people. But that's what makes him just ordinary, instead of extraordinary.

I think he was going to take the first "step up" that came his way regardless of what happened to the conference. I've come to terms with it, but I will never forgive him for how he left. The last civil war of the Pac 12 was a mockery because of him.

That uck team was a lot better than we were and their only 2 losses were to a team playing in the National Championship. uo crushed most of their other opponents.

We lost to Washington by a safety the weekend before. Do you have amnesia? If he would have been 100% dialed in instead of out the f*cking door, which the team was aware, I believe we had a chance to win that game, no question. BTW Bray's D played ok, but Smith's offense played like a team knowing their coach had quit on them. A lot better? We have a far differing opinion on that, and we will have to agree to disagree.

Do you have amnesia? You're discounting the weather factor in the OSU vs UW game. The weather was what slowed down UW's offense. If the civil war would have been at Reser, with the weather that we had against UW, then maybe we would've had a chance. Our passing game was just too inconsistent to compete with them under normal circumstances. Bray's D gave up 31 points. We were not going to beat them giving up that many points on the road.

The problem with all of this is, we will never know what we were capable of, good weather or not, with a truly committed, dialed in team for the game. Losing the locker room days before had to have a huge impact on the mental aspect of the offense and defense. I understand the inconsistency issue, but here again, how much of this was JS not being totally into the game plan, and boneheaded decisions?

Everyone here is so sure their morale compass (of that it even is an issue or morality) is so superior. Yet they've never walked a day in their shoes let alone a lifetime. Anyone "pretending" they'd have made different choices had 20/20 hindsight and a giant trunk of BS to carry. They have no idea, no comprehension of their lives, thoughts, and reasoning. JS left. He left in an awkward fashion. Whether or not his recent interviews are sincere? No idea. And, neither does anyone else. It's effing done. FFS figure out something else worth fussing about.

I have never felt (or close) to being hurt by JS. I told a friend once that JS is a person you would follow into war. I admired him more than anyone in sports. Little did I know the SO.. would shoot you in the back. I have now put him down to the bottom of the scumbags list.

Just a terrible take. I don’t have amnesia. We had the talent to compete and beat the ducks - we needed the coaching staff on O side of the ball. You discount how good we were last year, and you discount how niner quitting on the team affected the players. The D gave up 35 or whatever because the O did not have a game plan or the focus to execute. The O shows up and we have a chance to win. But go on about how much better the ducks were than us - I’ll treat your next post like I treated the Canzano story.

I could have lived with his desertion if he had given what he demanded of his players…a full 60 minutes. I wasn’t here when he was a player, so it’s easy for me to say f%#* that guy.
