What is killing me right now is that there's another thread on this board where someone suggested that anti-GA people should leave this message board and find their own place to spew their opinions, but when a 20 year athletic department veteran voices support for GA, people are like "she doesn't know what she's talking about." Eh. I think the people are here calling it what it is. Support for the coach. I have no problem with that. People are getting their panties in a twist about the "best coach in her time here line" Like it or not, that is a pretty big slap in the face to a certain guy that basically built this whole thing. Hell, that doesn't even bring up Erickson that gave us the greatest season in program history as well! If you want to say you believe in GA and he is gonna build this program up? awesome. I have no problem with that... It is this idea that you are proclaiming him as the best we have ever had when he has essentially achieved nothing. Supporting your coach is the smart and savvy thing to do, but going with the GOAT line, when the dude is like has 4 total wins in 2 and a half years is... well, a bit silly.

"... now that they have recruiting and strength conditioning back to where it was... they (Wisky) are close to where they were..." A not so subtle jab.
As for the comments regarding "best coach at OSU since 92" I noted that comment in a thread last week and mentioned it was no doubt premature. However, she is not only AD staff to praise GA and what he's doing here. He has the full backing of the AD. And contrary to all our opinions, they are employed by the OSU AD, and we are not. They have a bit more inside knowledge than any of us.
Yeah... I reject this line of reasoning completely out of hand. Being employed by the AD certainly does not make you automatically knowledgeable about football or the OSU program. There are lots and lots of people who work for the AD that don't know jack about the game or really even much about the OSUFB team, because it simply isn't germaine to their job duties. Beyond that, nobody here has claimed they have more "inside knowledge" than Vydra - and it doesn't matter, because that's not a prerequisite to hold an opinion.

I think frame of reference is key here though. She's talking about inspiring kids, motivating them, helping them succeed on and off the field. It doesn't really take long to deduce that wins and losses are not that high on the list of things she values in a head football coach. Even if we're talking pure wins and losses, it's subjective. Riley has the most wins all time. Erickson has the most in a single season. Stiner won a Rose Bowl. Prothro/Erickson had the most success in other stops in their career. Andros beat the Ducks.

I generally don't like to Post a lot.I do see improvement in effort.I really think it will be next year when we see the growth. We are still thin and with injuries it makes it harder.I was one who liked Mike Riley and am glad he's doing well. I also like Andersen and believe he's building it the right way. Last Year was hard to watch and Colorado game troubled Me. Colorado beat someone 40 to 16 this week so maybe, just Maybe they are far better right now. I know they lost to the trojans by 5. I think we beat USC in LA in the early 60's. Anyway The Game Saturday was hard to measure other than effort Windy,My Rain Gear kept trying to come up over My Head, the Punting, the field goals and passing were affected. I stayed to the end,but losing 2 QB's made it very hard and only 37 Seconds left. I don't blame the fans that stayed Home as some areas had damage. Hi water on 205 driving home etc. In essence I hope we can win a few Home Games like 2 or 3 more and steal one on the road. 5 or 6 wins would be great this Year.

Still a pretty controversial thing to say at this stage in GA's career at OSU, and one bound to generate some discussion among the faithful.

True, simply being employed by the AD doesn't automatically make one knowledgeable. However, when high ranking long time members of the AD (other than Vydra) also voice their opinions and praise GA and "his process" IDK. I give them more weight than the guy on the message board. Because I am thinking its a safe bet they do in fact know more, and have more interaction with players, coaches, etc. than your average fan does. Because if any of us actually know more than any senior ranking AD staff, we are screwed!
Regarding your last sentence, I believe Baseba1111 has claimed to have inside knowledge, or perhaps that was just insinuated by another posted. Which is why I noted that none of us actually do. Because I strongly doubt that any of us genuinely have true inside knowledge. But you're right that definitely doesn't prevent one from having an opinion.

We all agree the wins are NOT there. But if you look at improvements GA has made to the football program since he took over. You have a team from reported accounts is setting records in the weight room (i.e. stronger). A team who's GPA has improved. A team with ZERO player arrests since he took over (compared to how many with previous coaches). And I believe Deltron Sands is the only player to be kicked off the team due to violating team rules (once again, how many under previous coaches?). Contrary to some views, that IMO shows this team respects their coach and the message he's putting out. I'd also argue that some of the innovating things they've done with recruiting is an improvement over previous staff's (although as pointed out a while ago, that is likely due to increased recruiting budgets).
GA was green lighted to rebuild the program how he saw fit. He's doing that and there have been solid off the field improvements. Obviously the huge question mark is whether the on field results are to follow. Based on his track record and the off field results thus far, I have complete faith in him. But, I reserving judgment on GA until after CW 2017. Because next year needs to be at least a .500 record.

Datrin Guyton was also dismissed. I think you could probably say Caleb Smith too.....but who knows what happened there.

It seems to me than in one thread Baseball1111 mentioned having had tutored members of the team. If true, his relationship with at least some players goes beyond that of crossing paths in a hotel hallway. Either way, I tend to take anyone's "inside knowledge" with a grain of salt. Donors inject their own opinions that might skew reality, department or classified staff members may or may not necessarily agree with decision makers and inject their own opinions, players may not see beyond their own facemasks and be able to remove themselves from the emotion and assess where they are or are not making improvements. It'll be interesting to assess which direction this team is taking AFTER the season ends rather than taking it one game at a time and casting judgement (difficult to do for sure).

The last staff hired airplanes to fly banners over games of hot prospects and either were early adopters or inventors of the Twitter recruiting coach visit maps, along with hosting numerous satellite camps in recruiting hotbeds (which was at least temporarily shut down by the NCAA, I think they rescinded that shut down). It would be interesting to hear of the new ideas this staff is using.

The "improved recruiting" is something said about every new coaching staff ever, along with "we've totally revamped conditioning" and "we had more guys stay over the summer than ever before" and "this is the most talented group of recruits we've ever had"

You have some great opinions, and you back it up with a good amount of facts. But to ATown's point, is Anderson the best coach in Oregon State history? Better than Norcross (undefeated, untied, and unscored upon in year 2), Stewart (last undefeated Oregon State team was in his year 2), Schissler (7-2 in year two. Best team north of Stanford. 7-1 in year three with a 29-0 win over Marquette in Marquette), Stiner (Ironmen in year 1. Tie against the 1931 and 1932 national champion Trojans and win over Fordham at the Polo Grounds.), Prothro (Pacific Coast Conference champions and Rose Bowl in year 2), and Andros (7-3 in year two. Best team north of Los Angeles. Giant Killers in year 3)? Or would you agree that Vydra's comments are "ridiculous?" Putting Riley and Erickson (11-1 and Fiesta Bowl champions. Best Oregon State team in the poll era in year 2.) aside, I think that Vydra's comments are demonstrably false. But I would listen, if you thought that they were true.

wilkyisdashiznit - I don't think they're ridiculous. I think she stated her opinion, and I don't think she was talking about performance on the field. I'm not entirely sure what her role has always been inside the athletic department, but I do know she received her masters in student development and counseling. I think her perspective is squarely on what happens with the kids off the field and how he coaches...not the results that stem from that coaching. That GA is beloved by his players and a master motivator is not something that is surprising to me. All accounts have the football program improving in academics and off field incidents....those are the things likely to make an impression on Ms. Vydra. If I was ranking OSU RBs in my lifetime, I'd have Simonton at the top of my list, even though he's probably 4th or 5th in terms of physical ability. Is he a better RB than Steven Jackson? No, but he's had the most impact at OSU in my opinion and that puts him at the top of my list. I'm a little surprised at how little weight her comments were given by this board, given her position in the athletic department and the length of time she's been at OSU
