To be honest, I was a little disappointed in his answers. His talking about playing in front of more people who were all-in on the football team. I think he sells Corvallis and the OSU community short, but whatever. It was more understandable to hear him talk about his relationship with his coach and the loyalty there, however ironic it might all be.
I wish him well, but it's a very conflicted wish with his current team.

Chiles says Smith was honest with him directly after saying Smith didn't tell the truth. Sometimes you just want to yell, "listen to your words."

“They told me exactly what I wanted to hear…”. Yeah, I’ll bet they did!

I’m hoping for consecutive ACL tears for the young man. Is that bad? Does that make me a bad person?

Some on social media are claiming that Chiles' story implies tampering as Chiles was not yet in the transfer portal

“75,000 vs 30,000.” “No big 4 conference affiliation.” Those factors will be used against OSU, by coaches in other programs. It’ll work on some of them. BTW; when in hell has msu been a “national power?” How often have they even been a “big whatever” power? So much bull s%#t.

Meh, he treated Oregon State about like his coach did....but even he was surprised by he who shall not be named leaving his own alma mater in the lurch.
I do not wish ill on the young man, but I hope his coach gets fired within 3 years

Some on social media are claiming that Chiles' story implies tampering as Chiles was not yet in the transfer portal I was going to post this. If Smith had verbally accepted the position, and indeed had told Barnes he was "legally" not allowed to connect with any OSU player who was not in the portal. Which had not open at that stage. He or any other coach could not have "talks" with any OSU athlete. Hard to prove in that Chiles can recant and say he remembered the dates incorrectly. But, more concerning to me is that he stated JS told the team the week before the CW. WTF... why was he allowed to even be on the field? He should have been immediately relieved of duties, docked a portion of his pay and kept away from players/offices. Any other coach that followed him because of the suspension could be fired for cause and OSU saved a bit of money. At that point in a season a skeleton staff could have run the team as well as what we saw that day. I will not go as far as wishing injury, but as AD I would have suspended and very publicly berated and embarrassed JS as much as possible that week and the week following. How he mislead, lead us on, lied to players and OSU staff all the while having decided to leave. He broke the trust of all 120+ players and all the loyal fans that believed he was still interested in staying while the contract talks were bogus. I can only hope that Chiles opened the door to maybe some other players opening up. Those players he talked to and that they decided to stay put, or move on to another school. If several talk about his (or any of the staff that left) tampering it would be a very interesting Spring. Wouldn't it be awesome if he and others were suspended? Recruiting sanctions? financial penalties before he even coaches a game? Unfortunately, probably just a dream...

“They told me exactly what I wanted to hear…”. Yeah, I’ll bet they did! That was before he signed at Oregon State. “The reason I went to (Oregon State) they were the most honest coaching staff with me. They told me exactly what I wanted to hear,” Chiles said.

Chiles didn't say he was told a week before, he said the Smith changed his tune to "Then, a week before the Oregon game, he doesn’t tell us he’s leaving. He just tells us to focus on what we have to focus on now." IE don't listen to all the rumors that I am leaving...so they knew without being told. Then the Chiles doesn't give an exact timeline on the talk with Smith about going to MSU "Chiles said he and Smith talked shortly after the post-Oregon announcement about rejoining at Michigan State." Chiles can 'clarify' "shortly after" to mean anything he wants it to mean or is told to tell someone. Not even worth investigating.

Well, during 2010-2015 they had a 6 season run where 5 of them were 11 wins and higher. Not a lot of schools can claim that the last 15 years or so. It was a different coach, but they do have a relatively recent track record of playing at a high level.
