Kennedie is really good on offense, her speed allows her to drive to the hoop better than most on this team.
I haven’t seen enough to put Kennedie in the Good category for offensive. Definitely aggressive though. 2-8 shooting isn’t all that great. Maybe she will get there. Not sure yet.
Adlee is definitely good (not great) on offense. Her full year stats reflect that.

It's way too early to really comment but I would love to see them push to get quicker scoring opportunities and more open 3 looks for their shooters, running quick actions for them, attack and dish opportunities. If the coaches believe this team is a good defensive team, then they should want more possessions in a game and not less. I agree with this, although it's not really Rueck's style. I wonder if part of the reason we didn't see much of Paurova against Villanova is that she really pushes the pace when she's out there. She might be still learning the defense as well. I will say that I believe Rueck stuck with her against APB because she provided a better matchup against their speed and quickness. But I think her style could have helped on Sunday.

I don't put much stock in who plays, who starts at this point in the season. Scott's looking to see what he has, and he'll juggle some things. One thing I find interesting, though: Timea was a McDonald's All American; Talia would have been if her senior year hadn't been cancelled. Neither one is currently starting. And that is another head-scratcher---both of those players are very talented and should be starting and getting lots of minutes so that they can get their games fine tuned and ready for the Pac-12 wars! I think both players are still recovering a bit from injuries. I think TVO is also in the process of finding her way in a different role. I noticed that Scott went with Hunter bringing the ball down and then getting it to TVO at the top of the key a few times early on and then basically went away from it. Personally, I would like to see very little of that moving forward. IMO it slows down and sometimes bogs down the offense too much. Much rather have Hunter get the offense going as a true point guard. IMO we haven't seen the "true" Timea. I expected her to be a much more dynamic player on a regular basis. She does get in there and grab some boards but she often settles for a more perimeter game on offense and sometimes seems kind of tentative. I know she has a very good midrange game but I could see her taking opponents to the hoop a lot more and just being a little more active in general. That's where I think the injury has taken a toll. Hopefully she breaks through soon.

This OSU WBB team has lots of upside. Though after watching UCLA, Stanford, and Colorado games, OSU WBB players are going to have to hit their open shots because many teams in the PAC-12 have multiple scorers on the floor at all times. That wasn't the case in Villanova who really had one reliable scorer. It will be difficult to win PAC-12 games if we are not scoring 65+ points per game. OSU WBB coaching staff have a much deeper bench than in past few years, and it will be up to coaches to play the correct combinations and make smart in-game substitutions.

But this may be a roster that can piece it together with the right groups on a per-game basis and find ways to exploit s lot of teams. I do really like that we seem to finally have defenders for very quick guards, which the good teams all have.

She can drive to the hoop, but the jury is out if she can finish at the hoop. She has good arm extension, she's aggressive, and she uses the backboard effectively - so she has some of the makings of a slasher who can finish... I agree that she has good horizontal speed and good muscle in her perimeter defense...She can bust a high screen as well as anyone on the team. If she can shoot or not is pretty much an unknown as of now because our sample size remains way too small.... GO BEAVS!! I based my comment on what I saw of her in many of her games last year as a senior in high school. She had no problem finishing at the hoop and from what I've seen so far this year she is getting to the hoop but appears that she is playing a bit tight so her shots are coming up short. That is the easiest problem to correct. Once she relaxes those shots should fall.

I hope you're right. I'd love for her to prove herself to be a strong finisher at the basket.
My point is a minor one, yet important. It's really not that hard to attack the basket and get off a shot. Hell, every street player can do it. The problem, and it's a big one, is making the shot consistently.
I'm hoping she can do it. I'm hoping you're right. Check back in January and we'll see what's what. GO BEAVS!!

Watched the replay again tonight. Some thoughts: I thought it was significant who played down the stretch, the final 2-3 minutes. The Beavs stuck with basically 7 players with Beers, Hunter, and Hansford playing the most, and AJ, Talia, Timea, and Kelsey subbing for each other depending on what was needed (rebounding, FT shooting, etc.) I have to say a lot of credit goes to Lily who played those final 2+ minutes, hit the 3pt shot that put the Beavs in the lead for good with 2 minutes to go, and inbounded the ball when the pressure was on. Not positive, but I'm pretty sure I caught the +- and Lily had the best + on the team in this game. I definitely underrated the impact Rees would have this season. Utah not playing her last season probably slowed her development. It looks like she will get her chance to grow this season. Kennedie can play! Chances are as we get to Pac12 play, Kennedie will get little to no minutes, but if she hangs in there, and continues to develop, she will get her chance to play for the Beavs in the years to come. I'll still say I like the Beavs three freshmen, though we didn't really see Dom in this one. The Beavs need one guard/forward to step up and play like Oleson did for Villanova yesterday. Early in her career we would have bet on Talia, and maybe she will still be the answer, but one player like that to go along with Raegan would make all the difference for this team.....and better 3pt shooting. A Syd, Kat or Aleah who could win you a game or two with their long range shooting would be huge as well. At some point maybe Lily. Adlee, or someone will step into that role. As a Beaver fan, I'm grown to accustomed to that, and we haven't had it since Aleah left.

Totally agree rman.
What this team is missing and has been missing since Aleah graduated is a consistent dynamic scoring guard. Talia has had games where she has been that but they're pretty uncommon. On the roster, I see Adlee or Dom as the most likely candidates from the guard position to be able to do that consistently if given a chance. Hunter is good, needs to be on the court but she's not a threat as a shooter which makes driving harder. Shuler is a shorter, less athletic version of Hunter (still pretty athletic). Martha- nope. Lily and AJ, I just don't see it. Way too inconsistent. Talia can get shots up by efficiency has not been good. Timea can obviously score the ball but she's not a guard and doesn't really ever seem to be consistent either.
The biggest head scratcher is Adlee. Finished last year looking like a big time threat from outside and has hardly got in the game this year.

I do really like that we seem to finally have defenders for very quick guards, which the good teams all have. After watching us against the speedy APB team last week I felt we had a clear top 5 overall most talented and most athletic group that could compete well against anyone---RB, TG, DP, TVO, and DH as the top 5, and then the 1st off the bench group would be AJ, KR, LH, and MP---I realize I'm leaving AB out here and she is a good shooter but lack of foot speed hurts her defensively. I also left KS out here but after the 'Nova game it looks like she will probably take MP's minutes due to her better defense. Obviously the coach did not see the same top group(s) as I did here with 2 of my top 5 (DP and TG) opening on the bench with AJ and KR both starting, and DP remarkably only getting 7 min. and 2nd group MP not even getting in the game.

I don't know if anyone else has mentioned it, and 2 games is not a precursor to the season as a whole, but we outrebounded Pine Bluff 57 - 41 and Villanova 46 - 32. Win a lot of games if we can keep doing that.

Last night watched OSU WBB's next opponent, UC Davis, lose to San Diego State last night. I believe we'll see a lot more PT for the players who saw little or no minutes vs Villanova. Coaches had to shorten the bench vs Villanova and OSU's next few opponents should allow coaches more flexibility in their substitutions. I have every confidence the coaches want to provide as much experience to the bench players during non-conference.

I know sewingbeaver made an effort to get them to use microphones for the questions, and at first I could hear the reporters really well, not as much for the last guy, but hey, maybe some changes ?

Interesting that the 2016 players mentioned that every possession is a battle, and even in practices it has to be this way. Diving on the floor for loose balls. What did Lily do in the Villanova game? Lily will have a scar to show for it, but I gotta believe that Lily diving on the floor will rub off on all the other players. It was also nice to hear Coach Rueck speak to Lily's defensive game, because Lily is key to our perimeter defense and rebounding as well.
