Our Pac-12 affiliation is the ONLY reason. More money, better ability to recruit, etc. Look, I don't think OSU joining the MWC would be the end of the world. And I'm sure the MWC is probably looking at expansion as something that needs to happen sooner or later, so if it can bring in a few Pac teams, then that's probably a good thing from their perspective. Not sure how those schools would see adding just OSU and WSU, though. Anyway, it's a solid conference even if it's technically a "step down." But that doesn't mean that it's going to be any easier for OSU to succeed once there. Its the worst possible situation: a minor league in terms of reputation but has some teams that, on a given day can play with nearly anyone. So, doing well there doesn't mean much ("Its the MWC") while not doing well means you're really irrelevant. Money wise, it doesn't pay much but includes a hefty buyout penalty. Actually, the worst possible situation is something I touched on in my post: "Not sure how those schools would see adding just OSU and WSU, though." If they view OSU and WSU as two more mouths to feed and nothing to gain, then why would they want to add the two schools? And if even the MWC passed on the two schools, where would that leave OSU? Independent? The WCC?

I'm not sure but MWC would be my last door out, even worse than going independent.
Is it a given that the Bay area schools are going Big10? We could try to cobble together a new conference of legacy Pac holdovers with San Diego State and Boise State (if they can get out of the MWC). Try to work a streaming deal with Apple for six schools? The "Small Six."

If the Pac 12 folds and it's down to us and WSU, I would like both to remain in the Pac X and invite 10-14 teams to join, mostly from the MWC but elsewhere if it could benefit the fledgling conference.

I think if it's down to OSU, WSU and the Bay Area schools (maybe even ASU as well), then the remainder of the Pac could merge with the MWC and have a shot at a pretty solid media deal. The MWC currently has a $270 million deal with CBS and Fox Sports that is up in 2025-26. Who knows? A a new one might wind up being nearly as good as what is reported to be the Pac's offer right now.
