And, they’re not in a Power 5 conference. Thanks for confirming my point. Charlotte has 29k students, Georgia State has over 50k. These are big schools in football rabid areas, I suspect there's a lot of alumni money available compared to a 7k school. Kudos to them. If you've ever watched a Charlotte or Georgia State home game on TV, you'd see they draw less than 10K fans per game, no matter what numbers they may announce. Charlotte's stadium seats about 15K; GSU plays in reconfigured Turner Field and the place is always 80% empty. They are FBS schools in name only. Any school even thinking about a startup FBS football program would also have to add between 50-70 women's scholarships. The thought of a small private school like Santa Clara or Gonzaga or St. Mary's starting an FBS program from scratch is insanity.

What a win for Coach Fox.

The next big announcement is that the remaining schools stand united - after Arizona leaves for the Big 12. ESPN/Fox gave Big 12 a bounty of $31 million to get UA or any other P5 school. That bounty system was not the Big 12's doing. It was ESPN's way to get parts of the Pac 12 by defection rather than negotiating for the whole.
The overlords of college sports are firmly in charge until they go bankrupt. Fox wants to add UW and UO to the Big 10 eventually. Every other team west of the Rockies would then be irrelevant.
If the Pac can survive one or more business cycles then there is a chance to stay relevant. We need to add a stable of G5 schools that can grow their brands.
The Pac's problem was not recognizing the power to ESPN/Fox. They needed to be the hunter. Now we need safety in numbers.
Take UNLV, Rice, SMU, SDSU now.

I am wondering why Air Force is not being considered for the Pac12. It is a national brand, great academics, nice facilities and stable funding, has numerous team sports for both men and women, more part of the Denver market than CSU and slightly higher game attendance.

Form a partnership with WSU and go offer yourselves to the ACC or Big 12.

Colorado Springs is one hour from Denver. AF has higher game attendance than all other MWC teams except Boise, Fresno and San Diego, and more than CSU which seems to be under consideration. Somebody besides AF alumni must be attending these games.

Somebody besides AF alumni must be attending these games. A lot of the attendees are cadets. Though their total enrollment is 4000 average so not sure who goes to those games. AF’s fans or alums are people from all over the country, not really Colorado. Unlike CU and CSU where alums may tend to live local. There is not a huge alum base due to the select few that are admitted there each year. I like AF and follow them often on. They don’t nationally competitive in football much and have few other sports. Just don’t see what they can add to the Pac others schools can better

I expect a lot of Air Force fans are actually in the Air Force and can't attend games. Doesn't mean they don't exist.
There are a few hundred thousand active Air Force members and hundreds of thousands of Air Force vets out there. That's potentially a pretty big fan base.

Is USAF a tier-one research institution?. I don't know, just asking.

Air Force? Their ceiling, competitiveness-wise, is just too low.
