Yeah, the old "we didn't want them anyway" routine. No matter how you look at it, it's not good. I'm not sure TV revenue talk is ever accurate until that particular year is actually paid out. But, Buffs have a very solid athletic tradition overall. They get to collect a sizeable yearly check while their major money maker will suck. It's obvious that Colorado administration knows more than a fan board. This tells me George has failed miserably in securing a new TV deal. If not why does Colorado move for seemingly less $. From numerous sites the Pac12 paid out $37 mil per school. Isn't the B12's new deal supposed to be $31 mil per for the existing schools? Is there some escalator clause if they add Colorado? Again, $37 mil per Pac12 school for '21-22 was from one article. Other rumors have George getting no where near that interest. Also, never seen this mentioned... is there no buy out or penalty clause to leave the Pac12. If the MWC has such a significant #, and penalty date that doubles it, does the Pac12? Lol, maybe the move is to see what the MWC TV contract is/ will be and become the new BSU and excel there. You can increase national exposure with a NC schedule in every sport. I mean really, Reser is a MWC sized stadium. Really nice one, but at 35k+ OSU will never draw home & home with elite national powers. They just can't afford the payouts. Better big fish smaller pond, than fish in a pond drying up! Why is it not good? The Pac 10 was awesome without them. They didn't bring much to the Pac. If the Pac is smart and pencils in SDSU and a few more, we won't even miss them. The only way this goes bad is if it brings about an exodus. Realistically, though, I think it's just CU trying to get the fans back. The major reason it's not good... TV negotiations. It has far less to do with Colorado athletic program prowess than it does losing a TV market. At this moment whatever was on the table is likely off or will be adjusted with no Colorado/ Denver market. With USC & UCLA the Pac12 was just over 19 mil TV households. Without, just over 12 mil. Without Denver, about 10.5 mil. The smallest of the P5 by almost half (B12 with Colorado will be 18 mil+). The Pac9 is now negotiating not the the Pac10 or more. There are no official invites on the table, no teams have accepted. You can't negotiate for more when the conference has less. TV rights have the conference over a barrel with this move being announced.

I'm assuming they were expecting this. Hopefully Kliavkoff has been forward about the possibility of CU leaving in media negotiations. If not, it gets even more sticky.

That guy is full of s**t. He's made about 80 predictions that never came true and has a hate boner for the Pac-12. I thought so. Glad you think so as well

Got a question about the newly remodeled reser and the debt incurred. How does the bond get repaid IF we go to the mountain west and as a result fewer tickets are sold and the price of those tickets are reduced AND the tv money plummets? Concerts

It may last a year or two if at all but half the conference is making a lot of phone calls today. One more defection and everything is toast.

If SMU is such a great get why isn't it being pursued by the big12? TCU will block it That is a good point ... if SMU is so valuable with their riches they have and being located right square there in the Big12 country in Dallas would TCU not wanting the local competition be enough to block their entry into the conference? Apparently so because you would think they would have been in the Big12 already if they were such a valuable asset...

Any former Pac 12 program that finds itself in a non-Power conference if things fall apart will find a substantial portion of its basketball and football players entering the Portal as soon as they could and also major declines in revenues from all sources: TV, donors, and overall attendance.
Most major non-revenue sports will need to be cut. Expect far less donor support, at least in the short run. Want to get alums on campus? Good luck drawing more than 20,000 to a San Jose State game.

Lots of doomsayers here. Quite frankly, I don’t get it. I don’t see it. I’m not impressed.
