I am referring to the writing off a season. The same wash, rinse and repeat cycle we can fall into. Times are different because I hear many are saying you have to live in the moment of the new portal and transfers so you can't expect a four year build plan. I have a feeling at least a couple will portal out. A tide rise all boats so I think about 8 other pac 12 teams are saying just wait for a couple of years. I heard the great core group plan when Destiny Slocum was hear too. There's little doubt that at least someone will go into the portal...it's just the way things are now. Who is the bigger issue. The Beavers have not been able to retain several of their top recruits in recent seasons. That can't happen moving forward. If you lose someone who is maybe deeper on the bench and wants a better chance to play more, so be it. But key members of a team have to stick around if there's any chance of growth. Particularly this specific team. I really believe they can make a significant jump with the addition of a few more good ballhanders/passers who have some good quickness/speed. They have two guards coming in and Rueck really should work the portal again for a point guard. Beers has made a huge impact and they definitely can build around her and if Gardiner is able to play and looks good, she will be another big piece. Aaron, TVO, Mit and Marotte are all significant pieces as well. I just think the team is not that far away from being pretty darn good and that's even with my belief that Rueck's offensive philosophy is not the best. You put good enough players on the court who are also good fits and you can win. I believe that the days of Pac-12 title contention and deep runs into the NCAA tournament are mostly gone, but at least getting to a highly competitive level in the conference and regular NCAA berths are viable goals. Very thought response and great points in your response. I think the key is to have a flexible plan and counter plan as things come up which in this day and age is a must. I just don't feel at times Scott is as aggressive in getting there as he needs to be. Take the PG position this year as an example and using the portal. I think a NCAA berth every year is an absolute must without fail.

Where did you study armchair coaching? More than a few years of coaching and being around the game. I think he made a mistake, I’m sure he was trying to save the timeouts for the advantage of moving the ball to the front court, but we ended up taking the time outs with us to the locker room. It’s sports, it happens. Big thing now is getting the team to learn from it and be ready for ASU. "More than a few years of coaching and being around the game." NBA? International? College? High school? Middle school? Church league?

I want to know if your truly understand the game from a coaching standpoint or are merely an armchair coach or couch expert who is full of crap. For example, wilky is the Beaver historian whose information is reliable. So, yes, I'd like to know.

Goforth was health-related. Slocum was a university hopper. If you are correct, the Portal puts us in a permanent building mode. Yeah. I said the whys aren't relevant, and they aren't. The end result is. (Unless there's an unusual situation going on like that with LaVonda Wagner). To your second sentence, yes...that is my point. But I hope it doesn't happen moving forward. Like I said, you're probably going to lose somebody to the portal because they will want more playing time elsewhere or whatever. That's normal and I don't blame those players at all. It's tough enough to lose an impact player (those who, at the minimum, consistently contribute in key areas) when they are late in their career or out of eligibility. Losing players with a few more years left can be devastating. To retain players, the whole concept of team as family has to be real and they have to continue to buy into the program. Interesting, don't know much about that.

Fair enough, your original post came across as something very different. 5 years coaching at the varsity level for high school, but on the boys side, student manager at Oregon State for men's basketball. As someone who even went through the same Masters program at OSU as Coach Rueck, I like and respect him and think he's a damn good coach. I just thought he made a mistake not calling the timeout during Arizona's run. Hope my resume gives me enough clout to have an opinion.
