The Big 12 has already added BYU, Houston, Cincinnati and Central Florida, and will be at 12 when Texas and Okie leave.
There are no schools in the "new" Big 12 that can match Washington, Oregon, Stanford, Cal or the Arizonas. Why would anyone leave the Pac-whatever to partner with an ALREADY INFERIOR league, and truck stops like Iowa State, Kansas State, Texas Tech and Baylor? Makes absolutely no sense. The Big 12 has always been flyover country and always will be flyover country.
Stick together, and the Pac-whatever will be fine. Wounded yes, but not fatally so.
This situation reminds me of when I was in school. You sit down to take a final, and your immediate reaction is, "Holy crap! I'm screwed!" because it looked so intimidating. Then, you calm down, actually look at it and then it's, "I'm gonna be OK. I got this."
One bite of the elephant at a time, people. One bite at a time.
And as far as Oregon goes, it will do what Phil Knight tells it to. Nothing else there matters.

Unlv and SDSU are no BrainerS IMO. Two brand new stadiums and over 6 Million reaidents. And I hate to say it...but Boise State has more traction than OSU on the national football stage. So you might consider Fresno State and BSU as another package. And go get Gonzaga for hoops and other sports. No...your not creating a football program at Long Beach State
But the Pac 12 being what it is...I guarantee they will f%#* this up with their high and mighty bulls%#t

What’s next? We have a new 34k stadium coming that will put up new flagpoles. Maybe a MWC flag will fly. I think when they planned to drop 12k seats in capacity that was writing on the wall for football. For years everyone knew OSU didn’t market well at all. OSU is closer to PDX than Eugene, larger student body, but chose to stay small and not compete. Dennis Erickson gave us half a stadium. It’s still that way. Just now the other side elevator will work minus 12k seats. That was the trade off I guess. They made their bed time to lie down. The original plan for reser was a horseshoe design with nice amenities and 55k seats. Now it looks like 4 different stadium projects and small time. So we deserve the MWC. I don’t know where you got 34k from. Everything that I’ve heard is around 37k, which is around a 8k drop from before. Utah is the only one that I know of that is increasing capacity. Everyone else is maintaining or shrinking capacity (like ASU). It has nothing to do with marketing, there just aren’t as many people attending games in person.

This would be an interesting development. I don’t know how happy our friends down south would be.

UW holds the cards now. They're the big dawg, with the biggest remaining media market. Their actions from here will determine if we still have a conference. They can also dictate to the conference what actions we take as far as expansion. Keeping them happy will likely be a priority. What I find odd is how everybody is lumping in Washington and Oregon together when talking about others potentially looking to leave. UW I can understand, but UO? They have just as little leverage as us. Their football program success may be at a high level on the field, but in the game of fanbase and TV markets, they're still small time. I can't imagine that UW would 'partner' with them in any way to leave as a package. Or at least I hope not! I love to imagine a scenario where UO's AD calls his UW counterpart to discuss a paired strategy, and the UW AD tells him to pound sand and that he's on his own. If he's smart, that's exactly what he should do. I heard big 10 is drooling over some possible influx of Nike money If you think it can’t happen then you probably have not been following the national media in all of this. Maybe we should let them know that Nike money didn't make the Pac 12 rich. It ain't gonna help no one but the Ducks.

This would be an interesting development. I don’t know how happy our friends down south would be. Put zero faith in that. They claimed they would do that in Oklahoma, didn’t happen. They would be doing massive harm to uo, to the tune of costing them $70 million a year. Once the uo lawyers get in a room with those lawmakers and explain the facts of life to them this will quickly and quietly die.

Oh yeah, let’s forever tie our existence to the need to follow Oregon around. That sounds awesome.
Our law makers must have something better to do.

If the pac loses 1 more team, uo and Norte dame to big, then I think the pac tries to poach a handful of big 12 teams to stay relevant with uw and Stanford still our tent poles. Civil war game probably in jeopardy in this scenario as uo will prefer the uw game to us as outside conference must play game.
If uo, uw and Stanford all head to big10, then I think a merger with the 12 schools in the big 12 is the likely outcome. Our 7 with their 12 plus one other makes a 20 team conference, which seems doable. Can those 20 teams bring in 35 to 40 million in media? Civil war game probably survives in this scenario as ooc game every year.

I don't think OregonState and WashingtonState are very attractive to the Big12. It was almost a year ago exactly when Oklahoma and Texas said they were leaving. The Big12 was ready to disappear. But their commissioner held them together. If GeorgeK can do the same, we will be ok. Two things need to happen. UW and UO need to cool their jets and not jump. Then any TV deal has to be better or equal to the Big12's. The third, which I think is easy if the remaining 10 stay remaining, is picking up two western universities.

The Big 12 held together, because of the ACC - Big Ten - Pac-12 alliance. That gave the Big 12 the breathing room and stability that it needed to invite BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF. 12 is still the magic number, though. The Pac-12 needs at least 12.

What if we add San Diego State, UNLV, Colorado State, and Hawaii?
That would be the pac-14.
All large colleges with good academics, large enrollment, and nice football facilities.

Hawaii does not have nice football facilities. They are playing at a field that holds about 10k fans. Aloha stadium is no more.

According to Wikipedia The New Aloha Stadium is a proposed 35,000-seat multi-purpose stadium to be built in Halawa, Hawaii for the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors football program, starting in Fall 2023. The area around the stadium will also include entertainment venues, retail stores, restaurants, housing, hotels, recreational sites, cultural amenities, and green space. It will replace, and be constructed on the site of, the current Aloha Stadium.
