Saturday and Sunday pitchers have been less then dynamic. It takes our Friday night guy to close down Vandy!

I think our pitching has been pretty damn good overall. The last few weeks have been a buzzsaw!.....and yet we are set to host a super. Hunter has improved. Pfennings is looking better. Kmatz has been nails and had a bad outing vs a very good Vandy lineup. The pen is pretty dang deep. Carpenter is the one guy who seems to get lit up more times than not, lately.
Hjerpe is just plain nasty though! I think it was a brilliant move to bring him in with a one run lead and secure it......its nothing against our pen, cuz I think Brown may have very well got it done....but when it's the last shot you want Jordan taking it.....Hjerpe is our Jordan.

Vandy scored three earned runs and had only five hits today. Our pitchers did just fine.
Oh by the way we've won 40+ games. That's an awful lot for just one pitcher.

Go look at their accomplishments for this year before you attack them.
Bringing in Hjerpe was really smart coaching. Vanderbilt hadn't seen Hjerpe and probably didn't really expect to. Plus, Hjerpe is a strikeout pitcher, which meant that you knew he would probably strikeout 4 of the 6 batters that remained. And he was pumped and competitive. It was beautiful.

The Beavs seem to do this every postseason. Remember Jonah Nickerson, or Abel coming on in relief? It’s smart coaching this time of year. Play every card you have.

All Pitchers can be Hit. Sometimes a great game pitched results in a loss. Like Stanford 1-0 in April with 17 strike outs. We have good pitchers that may be more situational. Having injuries has afforded developing Younger arms. Will pay off next Year and maybe in Suprer and Omaha.

It’s about matchups how many left handed batters did Hjerpe face? Vanderbilt countered with a frosh pitch hitter whose knees buckled on one pitch.I think MC and RD played it right.

Was the correct decision. It was his throwing Day so all was ok.

I think the issue we have with pitching is that none of our starters get you more than 5/6 and most if not all of our bull pen arms do not have the same effectiveness when pitching more than once a weekend.
Id say this is mostly a result of protecting our guys arms throughout a season. Especially in comparison to the way other teams use their “top guys”. Not saying we are wrong for doing it. But it is an advantage when you have some real work horses going into a double elimination tourney. Which i would say we DO NOT have.

Hjerpe - 16 starts ,5+ 15 times, 6+ 11 times. Pfennigs - 10 starts, 5+ 4 times, 6+ 1 time. Kmatz - 15 starts, 5+ 10 times, 6+ 3 times. Hunter - 11 starts, 5+ 5 times, 6+ 1 time. Main starters have 52 starts, 34 5+ outings, 16 6+ outings.
