Well, I'm 2 generations removed from today's college athletes, but, even at the risk of sounding generational like my parents sounded to me, I've got to say I don't understand this (approximately) 800 D1 athletes entering the transfer portal. Certainly this year was not what they dreamed of. Those who came to Oregon State didn't get the retreat at the coast, the regular pre-conference schedule, including the trip to Hawaii, the great experience of playing at Gill, or just normal college life. But that ain't OSU's fault, nor any of the other schools that had similar situations. It not like they were sold a bill of goods by these schools and then the schools reneged. Anyway, back to the generational stuff. My parents would have told me to give it a fair chance, stick it out and see what happens in a normal year. I would have told the same to my kids, and I would hope they would do likewise with my grandchildren. But that's obviously not happening with a very significant number of these kids. This whole thing does not speak well of those who became parents around the turn of the century. Understand, I'm not talking about any specific individuals. I know nothing of what might have been passed back and forth between Savannah and Sasha and their parents, so I'm not speculating on those situations. I am saying that, if there are 800 women in the transfer portal, an awful lot of the 800 mothers and 800 fathers involved in the decision have done a disservice to their daughters. There's a lot to be said for giving a lot of things in life a fair chance to work out - choice of schools, marriage, jobs... Quitting at the first sign of adversity is not a key to a successful life. Thanks for your post. I was getting tired of the "its Covid's fault" meme... Or, maybe it's not an excuse, and just a fact. Perhaps this is so frustrating because there isn't anyone or anything that someone can expressly blame for this. Since we're talking about mental toughness and having perspective maybe we exercise a little of that ourselves, and refrain from passing judgment on these 2 players leaving with the rigid hand of the righteous? Covid DID happen. It has turned our world upside down. We are seeing the results in our own camp, but we are not alone. Rueck and staff will find some players and we will move on. I know this is a tough crowd on here, but maybe, just maybe we cut some folks some slack this time around? Considering, you know, the year we just had. I don't know. Just a thought. For the record, I wholeheartedly agree with others on here about the newer generations, and the instant gratification mindset that has replaced a work hard/put-in-your-dues mentality that was prevalent in my generation and before us. So much has been lost in our culture, and in a way Covid is exposing that. Do I wish things were different? Yes! But to me, that is a whole other conversation, and really not fair to lay that stuff at the feet of Goforth and Samuel. Not this year it's not.

Four pages of posts on this subject and yet no one brings up the disparity about how most States have handled Covid? The Texas Rangers had 38,000 fans at their home opener.
40+ States have "opened" to one degree or another.
If you are a 19 year old premier athlete from the state of Georgia or Arkansas, why wouldn't you "go home" to live, let alone play basketball?

You realize that was after the women's basketball season was over, right? We have many counties in our state that have "opened" to some degree. And you lose any credibility when you use Texas or Florida as an example of how to handle Covid.

Should he have used New York and Michigan instead?

“And you lose any credibility when you use Texas or Florida as an example of how to handle Covid.” Should he have used New York and Michigan instead? I didn't see any reference to Florida in the original post, so how did that enter the conversation? And I think the disparity in the handling of covid is a valid point for consideration. I don't know that it actually enters into any of these decisions, but it might. We all, including Sasha and Savannah, know how Kate Brown did things, but how many are up to speed on what Georgia or Arkansas did? I'm not, but those two women probably are, and maybe they know they would have enjoyed much more freedom of movement there. I have no idea, one way or the other. I'm at an age where I was very much aware that covid could very well have killed me had I caught it; they're 19 and think they're immortal. Huge, huge difference in perception of the thing. In any event, whatever the reason (or reasons), they're gone, like the girl who dated you for a few weeks and then dumped you. No real point to dwelling too much or too long on why; doesn't change anything or accomplish anything. Chalk it up as part of life and move on.

She showed so much potential was rock solid on defense. Wish her well she will be a good one. Kind of a domino of Sasha leaving pretty sure.

If they were so isolated during the school year, why did they get shut down 2x for Covid reasons?
