While we have a week to go before the next step of this season, how much thought have you given to next season?
Obviously there are a ton of questions, beginning with 'how many Beavs return'?.
If most of the major contributors for the Beavs return, Gonzaga looks to be the major conference challenge next year. They are a heavy on Seniors and Grads this year. With the 5th year still in play, I'm not completely sure who will come back, but they will definitely lose a couple good players from their roster.
It looks like we will depend heavily on ESPN+ to catch the games? Is that correct for the WCC? Perhaps with the Beavs and Cougs added in, there may be some other choices along the way.
What about the Beavs schedule next year? The Beavers will probably enter the season as a top 10ish team, and they'll need to play some heavy weights to have a strong NET and SOS. Will any of the top teams want to play the Beavs? Who will be willing to come to Corvallis to play the Beavs? It will be interesting to see if any teams have the courage to take on the Beavs in Corvallis. I could be wrong, but I could see the Beavs playing a few of the former Pac12 teams in the non-conference season. I think the Beavs will beef up the Hawaii tournament to add stronger opponents, and may play in another major tournament as well. Possibly one of the tournaments that takes place outside the country.
Do the Beavs add any players in the portal? If they want to move from a top 15 team to a top 5 team, I think they should, but only if they think they can keep the chemistry they've had this year.
Who starts? If you don't add players, I think you start Dom. That would take away from some bench scoring, but if you play your starters 30+ minutes, you don't need quite as much from the bench.

It's my belief the NIL collective will have to pay players. They will also need to have this stood up before the WBB season ends so they can secure the roster. To be a "P5" program you need to be paying a minimum of $30k to every basketball player. They also need to finish out the Toyota deal and put players in a lease during their time in the program.
Beers and Gardner would have zero problem finding a $200k paycheck next year. I don't know their families' situations but that is life changing in some cases. With the latest ruling they can now negotiate before committing once released from their current program.

I think you might be confused, the men's basketball forum is called the Orange Depressed, this is the Women's basketball forum.

I doubt that there are too many athletic programs out there willing (or in most cases, able) to hand out $200k checks to women's basketball players. I also doubt that there's going to be any kind of issue with current players wanting to leave the program. Maybe one or two due to playing time. I maintain that although I don't believe any player on the roster wants to go from the Pac-12 to the WCC, I don't think it's a deal breaker for anyone. I think they realize what they have in this team and the grass just isn't going to be greener at the vast majority of other programs. As far as the portal, I would think if Rueck does anything, he might try to add another true post player. Other than that, it would be used to fill in if any players leave. As far as what the schedule will look like, I do think there will be an effort to play as many ex-Pac-12 teams as possible in the nonconference slate. Makes a lot of sense from a travel standpoint, should boost OSU in ratings and the programs will most likely view playing OSU as a good idea as well. Probably will have to do some wheeling and dealing in order to bring a chunk of those teams to Corvallis but I don't think it will be a major issue.

So OSU should drop all sports moving forward?

Why do some board members have a problem with talking about next season? Is it superstition? Maybe it will jinx the Beavers? It's a message board. Those of us who want to talk about it are going to talk about it.

My feeling is that most of the players will return because 1) they know the team has great potential, 2) they really do love each other and their coach as much as they say they do, 3) they will get assurances that challenging opponents will be scheduled. If a player leaves, I think it would most likely be Adlee or Martha. If we are going to add a player from the portal, it should be a very capable backup center who will be a great defender against the likes of Kiki Irifan of Stanford - there should be plenty of players who would find it tempting to transfer to a team like the Beavs even with the move to the WCC. Adding another great shooter (think Hannah Jump or Timea Gardner), but having one like Dom, who can drive to the basket would be the best; I'm hoping Dom becomes that player by working on her shot (if Dom does that, she should be a starter, replacing AJ). It would be great if Dono can improve her shot too; perhaps its good enough already though and she just needs to continue becoming more assertive with it.

I doubt that there are too many athletic programs out there willing (or in most cases, able) to hand out $200k checks to women's basketball players. Programs aren't allowed to pay players...yet. The NIL collectives do it. There are currently 6 Big 12 schools and 8 Big Ten schools with NIL Collectives that are paying a $50k minimum to WBB/MBB players. Key players are will into 6 figures. Our fund is a bit behind those at around $10 million currently.

I’m not telling anyone what to do or what not to do. But the original poster asked a question. And I gave an honest answer.
