I wonder what's going through Yeskie's head right now. Fifth game in a row where a starter not named Heimlich didn't get 5 innings in. Second game in a row where the bullpen couldn't stop the bleeding, each pitcher giving up at least a run.

Hey it was a bad omen when the Utah live streaming announcer said the Beavers were 5-2 in the conference early in the game. Anyway, overall bad game by the Beavers. Have to bring it every game when you are one of the top dogs in NCAA baseball. Utah looked pretty happy after the last out. Maybe should have ran Heimlich out there and see if he could have pitched six innings. Pitching tonight wasn't pretty.

RPI fall from 9 to 20ish with this loss? 9th to 17th. Ugh. Not as bad as I thought I guess.

RPI fall from 9 to 20ish with this loss? 9th to 17th. Ugh. Not as bad as I thought I guess. It might go down again tomorrow even with a road win. Utah's RPI is just that bad - 226 right now, and even worse 262 non-conference rpi. The next-lowest major baseball conference RPIs I could find are Big West Cal Poly at 198, Riverside at 180 and Davis at 172. Unfortunately, next lowest is Wazzu (160), and you have to get all the way up to 120 to find any ACC or SEC (Wake Forest). The Big West non-conference results are killing the west coast RPIs this season, and it is unlikely to get better with most remaining non-conference games against western teams. Edit - oops, I missed Virginia RPI 154. Also, all but one SEC teams are better than 100 RPI. (S. Carolina 103)

Second game in a row where the bullpen couldn't stop the bleeding, each pitcher giving up at least a run. The circumstances of last Friday’s postponement to Saturday, combined with the Easter factor, and the most recent performance of our erstwhile 4th starter (ST) really put the coaches behind the 8 ball regarding who to start the Thursday game. And the result wasn’t pretty...either starter or relievers. Contrast that with the solution that tsdtr implemented: moved Yovan from closer to starter - I believe on a permanent basis. Last nights result against the #3 team in the nation makes Horton look like a wizard.

As I was watching last night I was thinking about what an absolute luxury it was this time a year ago when we had 2 weekend starters giving us somewhere between 13-16 innings combined over a weekend series. Then Nate could just pick among the rested and ready. Hope Luke gives everyone else a much needed breather today.

Fame (and genius-hood) can be fleeting. I suppose a strategy like that depends on whether a team has a quality candidate to become the 'new' closer. 'ucks blowout of Stanford revealed nothing in that regard. If JM became a starter for the Beavs, there doesn't appear (after last night) to be a logical candidate to step in as closer....but I'd bet that Nate could figure that out.

Not sure about the genius part. Yovan was moved to starter last week against Cal, more out of necessity, their #2 and #3 guys have not been very good. Why waste having a good closer in waiting when you aren't getting to the 8th inning with a lead? Their pitching was so awful against ASU they were desperate to shake things up against Cal. Beavs don't seem in desperation mode quite yet.

I agree, loved his attitude last night.
