Sunday, Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. Sounds like four days to me if he starts on Thursday. If Luke was done pitching at 4 pm on Saturday and starts pitching again at 5 pm on Thursday that would be 5 days and 1 hour of rest by my reckoning. Yes, I know that is probably not the "customary" way of figuring it but I have found baseball folks don't necessarily make the best mathematicians. In baseball, the day you pitched (Saturday) is considered Day 0. The day you will pitch (Thursday) does not count as a day of rest. So he'll be going on four day's rest. It's like vacation. If your work shift ends on Saturday night and you have to go back to work on Friday afternoon, you have a five-day break.

Chamberlain started a game this season (4 ip, 1h)...but it was against U Port. Then again he did walk 3 batters in 1-1/3 inning this past weekend (and faced 9 hitters to get 4 outs....on 45 pitches).
Interesting choice for Casey/Yeskie at any rate.
I've noticed forever that 'days rest' does not equate to hours since last pitched / divided by 24. And tho' Luke would indeed have had 5.05 days without throwing a "game" pitch, if he started Thursday evening,"Baseball People" NEVER seem to count a day on which a pitch is thrown as a Rest Day...even if it was at noon.

Luke's a guy that can go on short rest, but then again, Bryce did not get a lot of innings in, so might just start him Thursday, and let Luke go for Friday slot.

Saturday is probably a good day for Bryce. The last 2 series that we have been to at Utah, thE 30 mph, late afternoon-evening wind to left field at elevation does not set-up well for Bryce. Of course, the early Saturday game can have 30 mph wind as well so command down in the zone is big. Lol. Interesting test for the pitchers.

I vote for Brandon E. No walks and no more "vomit" hits, 0-2 or 1- 2 Counts. Right now we are missing Jake T and bad! Come on Guys, #3 is wide open!

My prediction: Thurs - Abel Friday - Luke Saturday - Bryce Monday - Gambrel Tuesday - Tweedt (although Britton and Donovan were very tempting to me)
I think Eisert is too clutch in the long bullpen or matchup at this point to "waste" him in a starting role - although I agree he could be solid there...just my opinion.

Even though it was only one batter faced, I like the idea of Tweedt getting another shot at starting - his demeanor out on the mound and pitch quality while coming in for just one batter was the best I have seen him present in a while.

So nice to have so many options. If we don't pitch well on Thursday fans will be running through the guys who didn't get to throw and asking why?
In my observation, Casey and his coaches have usually tried to avoid having Freshman play in the starting role. Maybe it is the higher number of pitches per outing and hoping a more mature body can "shoulder" the work? Yes, you will find exceptions like Sam and Andrew but I do believe those were more out of necessity (injuries) than the "plan".
My best guess is Tweedt or Eisart... because they are not rookies. Still expect this quality group of freshman pitchers to come out of the pen and play a key role in our success but I'd be surprised if they start any of them on the road, vs a Pac 11/12 team.
All speculation and conjecture on my part but that is what message boards are for!

Weather looking to be a plus for this series. Thur > Sat highs in the high 50’s to mid 60’s...zero percent chance of rain. And unlike UC Berkeley....Utah provides streaming coverage. Yea!

I wasnt intending to make my comment connected to your suggestion. You are correct. I did have to check the roster, first year as a Beav but he transfered in after 2 years at a jc. I wasnt tracking that. He is very good, id have no complaints about him taking a start!

Lol. Guy had a great summer for the Rogues as a starter. He is the key, reliable, righty in the pen. Tough call.
