Two teams that went into the toilet last season, Oregon and Cal, with new coaches this are out there killing it right now against at least average competition to date. Sure their opponents are not Top 25 but they are beating them pretty soundly.
Here we are in year 3 under a newer coach coming off an upward trajectory to end last season only to regress to something far lower than anywhere this program has been in 21 years. We just made a serious upgrade in facilities on the North Reser project. This team has not been this bad since 1996 or 1995. 2015 was a better than this! At least that season the Beavs competed solidly for over a half with Michigan.
Yes I am beating a repeating drum here but this is just downright mind boggling, unacceptable and defies normal college football program recovery trends. This indicates some deep rooted problems on every level with this program from the AD's office, to this university's resources, to the size of its core fanbase, to the coaching staff's competence, to the head coach's competence to the talent of the players to recruiting to a lot of other little things adding up to a big problem.
I am coming to a conclusion that what has seeped down from the top of this university destroying this program is the lack of commitment, taking on some financial risk and debt and doing what it takes in all corners to put this program at a Pac 12 level. Only some elements are at a Pac 12 level. This virus has worked its way into the coaches, players and fans. There is no central fire, drive or vision for this program. Compared to WSU where things aren't perfect (or neither is their coach), their fanbase is committed and way more passionate than ours, their university admin. and AD are far more focused on football success and they are strategic. OSU's leadership is knee jerk reactive and have ZERO vision of what to do with the program, facilities or how it fits within this conference.
Until this university fundamentally shifts its approach to the football program, this team will continue to produce what we are witnessing today.

Look this team is embarrassing. It has to embarrass GA. It is time for GA to put on his "Big Boy Pants" and resign. Offer to leave for a reasonable buy out so the Beav's have a fighting chance to find another real Head Coach. When a Team in the 3 Year can't tackle just where is the Program going. Ok, into the Dumpster.

Good Point. However, if I was producing that kind of Football Product I would have the honor and character to get the hell out of the way. Millions of Dollars for just what?

Easy to say you'd have the honor and character to walk away from millions when you don't really have millions to walk away from. As to the OP, saying WSU has a more committed fan base is laughable. They've sold a 'school record' 14,000 season tickets this year. Yesterday, with a ranked team playing a regional rival at home on a sunny day, they managed to draw 32,000.

As much as I would rather CGA NOT be our coach anymore, and as lovely as it would be to NOT have to buy him out...
Calling for him to quit as the honorable thing is quite the cognitive dissonance... Not sure I can come up with any reasonable situation or application where quitting == honorable... And I would bet that CGA feels the same way.
I fully expect him to fight and try and effort until they don't allow him to anymore. I don't want him to quit anymore than I want the players to quit...

Pullman has a hard time filling the stadium, even when they are nationally ranked. The year Leaf was great at QB and the Cougs went to Rose Bowl, they only managed one "sellout" and it was suspicious at that. Many suspect the school bought up the tickets just to have a sellout. It's a long drive for alumni who don't live on the Palouse.

They barely hung on against a Nebraska team that lost to Northern Illinois. Wait until you see some Pac 12 play before you say anything.

I'd be real happy to be there right now, regardless what the future holds.

Maybe Leach is available to be hired away? Pop quiz, what university has the smallest % of their AD budget allocated for football? Hint: not WSU. You get what you pay for. Budget represents a commitment to excellence. Even after ponying up for Anderpants, OSU is still dead last. Dead. Last. What do we expect to happen? Riley was a master of making chicken salad out of chicken s%#t.

Riley was a master of making chicken salad out of chicken s%#t. I personally believe that there is going to be a financial cliff here in 2024. NFL viewership is down year-over and it was down last year year-over. If that does not stop, the NFL is going to be in a world of hurt in five years. And the NCAA is going to be in a world of hurt a couple of years after that. While it would be great if Oregon State had the money to keep up with the Joneses right now, doing so might imperil the future. Fiscal responsibility is never sexy, but a healthy dose of fiscal restraint may set the Beavers up for years to come. In a couple of years, Oregon State could be the ones having the last laugh, when several of the other Power 5 schools are hamstrung with ruinous debt.
