I will just say that now this board is becoming part of the 'problem'. No matter how you title/label it, whatever stance you take there is too much innuendo and rumors floating in here.... very likely Luke was molested... Did PC or school know... wrong this... right this... I realize this is a discussion topic of the most negative kind, but it happened... the crime... the judicial process... the punishment... the follow up crime of omission/lack of awareness... the published article... the unwanted national attention. It's not that I think it should be "let go", but these threads are not helping anyone in anyway. The blame game, the innuendo, the anger and accusations are now perpetuating the same. It is not what is needed now. In the weird department... we play a Vandy team who tragically loses a player in last year's post season that has a horrific effect on the entire team, and this year we in a sense "lose" a player that may have a similar damper on our post season. In the life moves forward, it is part of who Luke is forever, and a lesson learned the very hard way. In looking at his future MLB teams are very thorough in vetting players, and most likely knew of this situation. For the most part it was not public knowledge, now it most certainly is. In the climate of today's world I'm wondering if team's save the ire of negative publicity and do not draft Luke nearly as high??? A life lesson that most certainly keeps on giving. I'm not a religious man in terms of organized religion, but I do believe in a higher power, and pray that Luke is given the strength to endure and continue to overcome his mistake. It will be painful, but it will make him a better man. I'd love nothing more for him to start and show the mental toughness to pitch a great game... win or lose. It will be a mental battle that will make future pressure situations pale in comparison. But, if he can not be at near 100% I can fully understand that too. GO BEAVS Gotta say that I usually pass on reading anything baseba1111 posts, but this one: Nail, meet hammer.

I don't post much but I do stay up with this website. Similar to Elmira, I also pass on baseba1111 posts most of the time but for once in a blue moon, I think he put it out there as it should be. Dittos to you baseba1111.

Numb. I'm trying to put myself in PC's shoes....assuming he didn't know. Do I release LH and hurt every other player and coach on the team? Hurt the University? The fan base? Does ANY of that matter with regards to the nature of the crime? Some "mistakes" are ahelluvalot more damaging, impactful and long-lasting than others. And, it was repeated. To me that's key. There IS an innocent victim here. I know what I would do, as painful as that would be. This whole damnable thing is painful. Dammit.

I gotta assume since he was homeschooled he could have lacked a certain amount of socialization and teaching in certain areas of life at 13. None of us know about his upbringing, doesn't make what happened ok at all. Messed up 2 lives. That it continued until he was 15 makes it worse. However, I'd still like to think that a kid can still be straightened out and reformed at age 15.
He screwed up by not checking in after his birthday. It was clear he had been following the rules as far as reporting residences up til that point. He's going to live with this for the rest of his life. The worst thing is the likelihood that the victim and family have to now relive this again.
The article serves no justice, but I can see why it was written - juicy news.
I have judgement, but I hate to pass judgment in this case. Just sad all around.

While I hate to want to shoot the messenger, some ammo directed towards the little O seems warranted. They have obviously figured out what sells hence major coverage of naked bike rides, nude beaches, and just this week a story about a middle aged stripper complete with pictures. This story seems to fall into that genre. To what end does it serve? Make the victim feel better? I doubt it. Make LH feel worse? Possibly. Make the university, alums, and supporters uncomfortable? Absolutely. So if tearing the scab off this old wound was just to generate clicks, and make folks queezy was the intent, I guess Moran deserves a Pulitzer. I see no winners here except Moran. Hopefully the Beavs will get a new beat writer for the remainder of the season.

It is hard for fans not to appear as Luke apologists, and as has been noted, the real victim here is the young girl..... This incident has likely caused much despair to the young lady and her family, the Beaver community, and to Luke as well, as baseba1111 observes so eloquently. At the risk of taking this thread off-topic, I am going to push a profound book ("Just Mercy") I read recently. Here is one of the key lessons from that book, excerpted from a blog on the book, that I am trying to stay mindful of in this mess: Each of Us Is More Than the Worst Thing We’ve Ever Done The title for this post is one of the more memorable lines from “Just Mercy: A Story of Justice and Redemption” by Bryan Stevenson. Stevenson, a lawyer who defends those on death row or sentenced to life in prison, people who are broken. He notes that he often had conversations with clients who were struggling and despairing over their situations and the things they had done, or were done to them. These clients would question the value of their lives, and he would remind them that they were more than the worst thing they had ever done. If you tell a lie, that does not mean you are just a liar. If you take something that is not yours, that does not mean you are just a thief. Even if you kill someone, you are not just a killer. Understanding this is helpful not just for those who may be questioning the value of their lives, it is also helpful for all of us. We have all judged someone as a result of something that person has done, but we should not define someone just based on that act. Stevenson notes that we are all broken in one way or another, and understanding our brokenness creates not only a need and desire for mercy, but also a corresponding need to show mercy. The power of just mercy is that it belongs to the undeserving; it’s when mercy is least expected that it is most potent. I can’t recommend this book highly enough..... And if you are not into reading books - you can sample this (fantastic, profound) TED talk: www.ted.com/talks/bryan_stevenson_we_need_to_talk_about_an_injusticeNOTE - Please go to the 15:25 mark or so of the talk if you do not want to consume the speaker's larger agenda on racial injustice and the death penalty.Go Beavers!

Go Beavs From the articles that the Oregonian wrote and reading between the lines, it sounds to me like the one or both parents of the girl who was sexually assaulted wanted this article written. They have not forgiven him for what he did. They do not believe that he has been punished sufficiently. Oregon State University did not want this article written. The Oregonian ultimately decided that they had to correct an incomplete and generally false record that they themselves helped to create. The parents of a girl who was sexually assaulted wanted this information to be public. Does that make them winners? They got what they wanted. I love Oregon State. I loved my time there. I am proud that I went to Oregon State. I never felt unsafe. I always felt like the school was dedicated to my safety and the safety of all students. Hopefully, this makes Oregon State a better and safer place to go to school. Hopefully, this makes Oregon State a place where we will be happy and proud to send our children. I know that this is a baseball board, but there is much more to the University than a baseball team. Hopefully, something positive comes out of all of this. And perhaps nothing positive will result. I don't know. I know a lot of the wind has been sucked out of my sails about this whole season.

As a father of 2 girls, publishing this article did no justice. If this had happened to one of my girls, 1 of the 2 worse things just happened. 1.... Now everyone knows what happened 6 years ago, that is something that I would not want to happen. 2nd worse thing would be for it to happen again.

In the O-Live comments, tons of eugene die hards are saying "Beavers fans will do anything to win". LaMichael James (Beating his "GF"), Josh Puff (Huff) and Cliff Harris, Darren Carrington (pushing a man and breaking his arm on Oct 30th 2016), Kiko Alonso (arrested on burglary and trespassing charges in 2011) are just a few of the ducks in recent memory to get in trouble with the law and STILL PLAY FOR THE TEAM. I cant stand it. DISCLOSURE: What he did was wrong and I dont condone it. I am simply making a point about the double standards most of their fans have.

The interesting point your post made to me is that they're no different than us, and we're no different from other rival fan bases. If this had happened to say, Dorsey right before the NCAA Tourney, people on this board would be relentless hammering them and the kid for it. The double standard you speak of has displayed itself in great detail right here on Benny's House. As an aside, I recommend staying away from the O-live comment section. Studies have proved it actually sucks intelligence from the reader's brain.

Maybe I see things differently but the transgressions of 18-21 year olds shouldn't be compared to the acts of a 13-15 year old. I didn't begrudge Masoli's second chance, until he proved he didn't deserve it. Luke has done no such thing.

The biggest difference to me is that those were current on going criminal investigations... This is a past crime that has already been judged sentence cast and carried out...
