Another consideration....16 states don't require juvenile sex offenders to register as a sex offender. Most states allow absolutely no public access to the records of juvenile sex offenders. So the fact is, there could quite possibly be athletes in major college sports in exactly the same position as Luke. Except they haven't been outed by the local press.
While I agree that the crime is disgusting and the ramifications of the crime are terrible, I don't think Luke should be defined by it, particularly since he has done what the state of Washington required and, except for the possible slip this year, he has followed what Oregon requires of him as well.

As a father of 2 girls, publishing this article did no justice. If this had happened to one of my girls, 1 of the 2 worse things just happened. 1.... Now everyone knows what happened 6 years ago, that is something that I would not want to happen. 2nd worse thing would be for it to happen again. No one beats the wiz! You have it backwards, my friend. The worst thing would be for it to happen again. A good way to prevent it from happening again is by making it public. First, to make sure that Luke never gets another chance to abuse your child but second to make sure that everyone knows what you will do to someone who does that to your child. I have read a lot about people who have had terrible things happen to their children. I would say that most want to get their stories out there, so that they can help. They can first help to get justice from someone who they see as having been insufficiently punished. And second, they want to get their story out there, so that they try and make sure it does not happen to someone else. They want to make sure that Luke does not harm anyone else again. They want to make sure that other parents know what a guy what Luke did, so that we can do what we can to keep our daughters safe. They want us all to know that there are Lukes out there harming children and to watch for it. Nothing like that has happened to my children, and I do not want something like that to happen to my children. Keeping silent and watching the Lukes of the world do it again or another Luke wreck another family is unacceptable. I feel like I calmed down from yesterday, but I still hate what Luke did to my core. This still sucks.

Would that crime have been more forgivable to you? This is some weird country we are in now.

Sadly, the crime of murder is in our society more forgivable than a sex crime. I'm not saying that I condone what Luke did, because I do not! HOWEVER, when is enough enough? You commit murder, get convicted, do your time, do your probation, and go about your business. You commit a sex crime and you pay for it the rest of your life. There's no end to your punishment, and I feel that if you don't reoffend within a certain amount of time, if you are considered a (I think the called it) Level One Sex Offender, at some point, as long as you have not reoffended, you should be able to go about your life. It's a very sad situation for all involved.
