Stop and think about it. Raiding the AAC failed. You’re looking to spend $200MM to get basically the MWC. That is an epic financial disaster. The best hope of correcting this is merger and the PAC2 using (most of) the money to pad your budgets. The AAC raid failed. That brings up a good question...is the Pac-12 really paying for all of this? Or just the realignment penalties? Or the penalties and some of the exit fees? I know they set aside the $65 million. That just covers the penalties at this point...

We are paying the $10 million per team penalty to the MWC, not each team's departure fees. We are getting the best of the MWC and effectively eliminating the league as a competitor for a CFP berth. And this comes from the $65 million in penalties the departing schools paid. WSU and OSU are not paying a dime. I'm sorry, but once again nobody wanted Hawaii. They would be better off just dropping football.

I haven't heard anything of that sort. Not sure why, they add nothing but six hours in an airplane to get there, six hours back and a very late TV window that I won't stay up to watch.

Curious if the UNLV and other MWC recommitment hinges on the league keeping its remaining members… Dellinger also reporting that UConn has been approached for football only. Make of that what you will. lol. No. Please God, no.

I find that hard to believe. There’s financial malfeasance somewhere. Less credit risk if the fees are owed by multiple parties.

Not sure why, they add nothing but six hours in an airplane to get there, six hours back and a very late TV window that I won't stay up to watch. I’ll make this prediction Hawaii will be more valuable than Oregon State or Washington State in terms of media value by 2030. That last game time window last year had $160 million in legal bets (9% gross margin, or $14MM) more than any other team in the MW for regular season. Despite half our games being shown on the Team1sports app (remember our Facebook Live game in Honolulu in 2019?). We will have a new stadium. We will also get rid of our PPV set up which has been horrible for our fanbase ($75 per game PPV). That gambling attraction will grow even more when we show all our games on national tv. So yeah, there’s something special about Hawaii.

And it’s already been a long road to here. Sorry Crazy

How much of a cut do the teams get from all this money being wagered by gambling junkies? None, right? "Four out of five bookies recommend Hawaii!"

It’s still in the early innings regarding monetization and recently media execs are taking notice as a data point, like Nielsen ratings are. Sports gambling on a state by state level has only been legal since 2018 and has a lot of room to grow. I wouldn’t dismiss it just because you don’t know. One thing for sure, nobody plays later than Hawaii - that is an asset will only grow when all our games are on national tv. Here’s a link to start:

Yeah, since you are the last game of the night when you play at home, all the loser gambling addicts are chasing their tails and trying to cash in to get even for the day. Not quite the target demographic audience TV execs like, I'd think.
But then again, we're all uninformed compared to KC Smurthwaite.

Hawaii is just in a position to be kicking off so late for most of America at home they are the last bet of the night. It means people are putting Hawaii in on the last leg of their multi game parlays and closing out their nights with bets on that game. It doesn't mean they are sitting on their couch and tuning in. and there is a big difference there. Media cares who watches and who can sell commercials too. With that said, there is some value in that built in late night kick off. Pac-12 has a gimmie 8PM game for half it's Saturdays that actually isn't a burden for the teams, because it is 5PM where it is being played.

What I do know is Hawaii will get more media distribution after our PPV contract ends in July 2025 and I believe it will be way better than it is now. I stand by my prediction though.
