Well, I was all fired up for an eastern pod....maybe stay west now? I don't think you want to go east just for the hell of it

I am wondering if this is a bit of a strategic blunder - maybe should have gotten to the minimum necessary 8 schools by grabbing 6 out of the MWC, since in poaching only 4 we provided a war chest that the MWC could then use to fend off any further overtures with lots of immediate cash. Then get back to 10 or 12 with shopping to the east. Hmmmmmm. Maybe to an extent. But the intention is to build a best of the rest conference, not a pretty good five programs and the meh of the rest. They took their shot. And it's not necessarily over but landing Gonzaga at this point would be absolutely huge. Then even if they fill out with two football schools that don't really move the needle, they would have some breathing room and time as far as future additions. 10 hoop schools & 9 FB would be a great start. Don't think today's info changes the baseline media deal. The other 4 would not have left without a known set minimum.

In the end who will be raising the middle finger? Last week sounded very promising regarding adding a couple teams soon, real soon. Now not so sure. What middle finger? The Pac-12 already took the top off the MWC. The MWC is now just trying to stay afloat. The Pac-12 isn't in some kind of trouble here because they are still looking for two football schools.

But it no doubt would have gone up with the addition of Memphis, Tulane and South Florida. How much and whether or not it would make that move worthwhile is the question.

Pretty sure whatever baseline media deal was struck to draw the "4" wasn't for a reverse merger. Or it would have been done. My thinking is that the goal was to have smaller, stronger conference than that. While it also left the MWC with options. The Pac12, MWC, AAC all are fighting to be 5th best conference. The Pac12's next move might be Plan B or C, but the goal is the same. Schools with viable potential to grow the conference. Some MWC teams might be miffed being left out initially or declined?? But, SJSU, UNR, UNLV make sense. Especially if Zags can be convinced to make it 10 hoop schools.

Being reported that Memphis and Tulane wanted the Pac-12 to pay its AAC exit fee of 20 million, the Pac-12 offered to pay 2.5 million or it. I've seen this in a couple of places, but just random users. Got a link to this story?

This is Boise’s second time trying to leave and SDSU’s third. They found someone who they could spent their money to fund their venture (you and WSU). I think incentive revenue for performance on the field is fair. If there is a merger, I think there will be compromises. Then it would be the PAC/MWC vs the AAC. Two G5’s in the West dilutes both.

True, but not sure most if the remaining MWC teams will accept lesser splits? At least their commissioner who wants to keep her job will reinforce!

Lessor splits with incentives is the future for conferences that don’t have huge media rights. The original PAC-12 was destroyed because of this.

There aren't enough teams in the west to be choosy and that's the problem and whyMemphis, tulane, etc..were on the list. Seriously the new Mexico schools or utep---- no thanks.

This from Dellinger
The Mountain West continues its attempt to secure its membership with a long-term commitment to the league that features financial incentives for UNLV & Air Force, as reported Friday.
The league set a deadline of today for schools to agree to the new grant-of-rights.
