A lot of things would have to happen and you would need more than a few agreements for the following, but I hope it is something that is on the radar of the ACC and PAC.
For example the PAC adds Memphis and Tulane. It's done with the agreement that Memphis and Tulane play ACC schools while Stanford and California primarily play PAC schools. I say primarily meaning the bulk of the league schedule is against geographic contiguous schools. Memphis and Tulane come in at a financial level at no more than Stanford and Cal. The bay area schools receive some sort of a premium, some of which is reduced travel. The TV carriers would need to have an agreement on sharing games across all four time zones.
There are no exit fees. The ACC is starting to backfill for when Clemson and FSU bail. There are probably too many egos in the way for a common sense solution to take hold.

I'm torn, because I would prefer to have an actual western conference. I understand there are stronger athletic schools/bigger tv markets out there, but the geography starts getting stupid......Cal and Furd in the ACC is the dumbest thing ever. I would love to see those two, and both NV schools to get us to 10. Then I guess maybe go further east? It just would seem weird to have east coast teams in the Pac 12 I've lost track if this was mentioned before, but looks like the Nevada schools (at the moment) are a package deal. Personally I'd rather just have UNLV and have a stronger presence in somewhere like Texas.. My own speculation is that due to the $ involved in bringing in Mtn West teams, Nevada didn't move the needle enough to justify the cost. www.reviewjournal.com/sports/unlv/pac-12-poaches-4-mountain-west-schools-unlv-left-out-3168075/I hate the use of the word "poach" in this and other stories. "Poaching" is illegal. We broke no laws by offering membership. We will pay all costs we have agreed to pay, through two-party negotiations, to have these teams join our league. So will the teams that are willingly joining us. We didn't "poach" anyone. We presented a better option for the future.

Yea, I think you are right. I have my own bias toward adding the NV schools. I'm sentimental. I realize that has no place in today's college football world. I will get used to the weird geography if we add eastern schools I guess. All this non-regional conference forming just doesn't compute for me. It's based on tv markets, and AD budgets. On one hand, I'm glad we are starting to see a path. On the other hand, I still hate what college athletics is becoming. I hate that the colleges are controlled by media companies, and will sell their souls for a seat at the table. I continue to lose more interest in the whole thing daily.Ha! I told someone about 4 weeks ago that I'm not nearly invested this year.. Now 2 games in and a path forward - here I am - all in! I can't quit you Beavs. But to your point, on a national level, I definitely give fewer and fewer sh!ts about the blue blood programs, SEC game of the week, Big10 game of the week, etc.

Beyond that, I just don't give a s%#t! I'm a typical west coaster maybe...haha in the fall, I'll happily spend my weekends chasing steel on the Deschutes, or blacktails in the woods.....there's more to life than college football.

I wonder if we could get that East "coast" pod going and then lure Gonzaga in for the West coast pod and UConn in for the East coast pod on a b-ball only scenario? They haven't accepted or been offered (depending upon whom you speak to), the b-ball only invites to the Big-12. That way if basketball every did get its own contract you'd have Gonzaga, UConn, San Diego St and Tulane to hold up as anchors for new revenue there.

Im hoping for a texas connection that has some decent baseball teams... I'm down for UNLV, love the las vegas trip, but holding my breath if it comes with Reno trips.
We will be going to Reno this year, that will help me lock in my own observations.
Calford is always welcome. I think if we have the momentum and the ACC loses clemson and FSU... they should be interested.

About as likely as OSU trying to get into the SEC.

It really depends on the end goal. Are we going for a true “best of the rest” or trying to building the premier western conference. Also, is the goal 8 teams for now or 10 or 12?
If we’re truly trying to keep it west, UNLV is a must. My next choice is an unpopular one. I’d take Wyoming. I feel like Colorado State needs a travel partner and I’m just personally not a fan of military schools if you’re trying to someday get back to some form of a “power” conference.
If we’re willing to go east a little farther and get into Texas, I am personally drawn to the up and coming programs that seem invested in sports: UTSA and Texas State. I get liking Rice for baseball but we’re talking football. Rice and North Texas do not seem that invested in football.
If we’re going best of the rest, I’m taking the conference to 12. Add UNLV. Add Texas State and UTSA to get into Texas and bridge the gap to the East. Then take the big 3 from the AAC in Memphis, Tulane and South Florida.
Schedule the western teams against each other with 4 games against the eastern teams and vice versa (no divisions).
Oregon State Washington State Boise State Fresno State San Diego State UNLV Colorado State UTSA Texas State Tulane Memphis South Florida

They just seem like the weakest link to this whole thing. You're already in Texas with UTSA. It just seems like there should be a better SE choice... w/o divisions might work. I keep hearing they're going to 10, but USF is just tempting enough maybe they go full 12. But then again, if they wait at 10 maybe...someone unexpected in the future?
