Figured this could be a separate thread, ignore it if you want.
I really do want Las Vegas in if the Pac is wanting to feature western US teams as part of it's identity. After that, SJSU or Nevada wouldn't be all that bad to have. as far as western schools go.
Beyond that, the league will probably need to look elsewhere. Last fall, or whenever it was, one poster in Benny's House came up with the idea of bringing in one of the universities from British Columbia. I can't remember who it was that had the ideal, or even which school it was right off hand without looking it up, but I think that was an out of the box idea with a certain amount of genius. It was a big school, that already plays American football and has facilities or money for facilities... I like the idea, even though initially I wasn't keen on it.
Barring the collapse of GOR contracts due to the CC lawsuit, I think the Pac is looking to the state of Texas and eastward. I'm not up on who the best or most likely candidates would be.
Discussion is welcome.

I'm thinking 8 teams may turn to 10 teams right away, then maybe a pause for a year to let the ACC lawsuit dust settle. At that point 12 teams should be an absolute minimum, we've already proven that a 12 team conference is at risk of near death due to poaching, hopefully new teams wouldn't be so susceptible to advances from other leagues, but you never know.
I'd like to see 14-16 teams at some point for the long term health of the conference, and the ability to withstand any poaching that may occur in the future. I also think, assuming the Pac is taking the best of the rest, the bigger the conference, the stronger the conference. I'd like to see it bolster the argument for being included in Power Conference designation.

If the ACC implodes, then Cal/Stanford whichever other 8 ACC teams we can get. Then we have East/West divisions.

Is there any way we can get back Utah and/or ASU? Get a BYU?
If not, UNLV, San Jose State, Tulane, Rice, USF, UTSA, UConn, if ACC implodes, CAL Stanford, Syracuse

I think the high ideals of a bygone era need to be reconsidered as the conference realignment continues to happen. I think they have to take a long look at the changing picture and figure out what is best for them. Hopefully, that includes returning to the Pac.

Here's a crazy idea....What about adding U of Portland? Academically strong. Private university. Could they become competitive at the highest level in a short amount of time?

I think there is already a plan in place and just some convincing to do...I figure that they pulled in the "West" members and now they're trying to decide if they can move East and do two divisions or just stay West regional. If you had two sets of teams, there could be minimal travel across country, but at least you'd always have a partner to do so. The quotes about wanting to be near Big XII or ACC level - if you want to get that you're probably going to need to have a little more geographic appeal rather than just After Dark inventory. As I said in another post, there is just no way Stanford joins w/ Boise St and Fresno St. My guess is if they get 2-3 "Eastern" teams on board they try and sway a fourth with that... UTSA, Tulane, USF and Memphis... maybe Rice if you're desperate for baseball and Texas. I honestly don't think this will change OSU baseball's approach, especially if we can get top level talent to play against every year. Wildcard: Utah. They've never said anything really strong, pro-Big12 that I've seen in the time since they've signed. Yeah, they're happy, they aren't moving, etc. but yet they also supposedly helped out WSU somehow. So I'd just like to know who the media partner is that is pushing this together. Dellenger said a media deal was already presented, yet CW acts dumb when asked about additional teams and expanding inventory. Apple? Fox? Espn as a result of a lawsuit? Maybe ESPN drops the ACC renewal and let's the remaining teams scatter to the other conferences and uses less money for the PAC-12?

If we somehow got Memphis hoops and Gonzaga and SD State, we'd at least have an interesting shot at getting some shares. I thought UNLV was dependent upon UNR?

I am going to throw it out there that there is some chatter out of Sacramento that Sacramento State is going to make a play to move up to the Pac-12 or Mountain West. I have heard that there may be a lot of money behind it.
I believe that Sacramento State will get a Mountain West invite before the Dakotas or Montana.

I have heard that there may be a lot of money behind it. That's a potentially valuable market. And with some money behind them, the Hornets could get good.
