Ohhhh, for ffs. Now I get to look forward to a post by green85 sssssllllllloooooooowwwwwwllllllly explaining to beaver fans why it is perfectly normal, and in fact good, for college football players to be complete fee agents, selling their talent to the highest bidder and that it isn't phil knights fault he is paying millions to college players. In fact he is just doing it out of the charity of his heart to help disadvantage students eveywhere, and green pity's OSU for not being as generous. as an aside, Malcolm Gladwell has a great podcast going this summer about the 1936 Berlin Olympics. Gladwell says there were 3 easy ways to spot an American that would 'turn Nazi' in the runup to the Olympics. How they would resolve their cognitive dissonance with the evil of the Nazi's because they thought the Olympic games were more important. Green85's cognitive dissonance on his ducks f'ing over OSU and the pac 12 follows this pattern. And, it is also why a few predictable beaver fans on here want to minimize what hole has done for decades now, because they want to engage in traditional college football dysphoria - a belief if we just ignore what has happened, we can continue the illusion of traditional amateur college sports, especially the rivalry. I don't care if what hole is doing has been done under the table for years in the SEC and other places - all kind of cliche's come to mind.
I only want to play them on our terms - if they are so damn good, and are flush with cash, and their sh*t doesn't stink - they should have no problem with that.

The current NIL circumstances are allowing many players to leverage their athletic talent for money. In the simplest economic explanation this is a capitalist free market. The “fix” to this problem would be caps imposed on the monies offered. Free market versus regulated commerce - a debate as old as organized trade.

There are some here that actually like the Hollywood feeling of stardom of USC and UCLA. That is why they are given a free pass in all of this for some. They were thinking Pac-10 forever. I thought it would crumble in three years after USC and UCLA announced but not as fast as it did. Still, I think Larry Scott had a hand in all of this decline and it could have all been avoided early on . He got rich off of the conference and George K. was basically ineffective after Larry left. It will never be the same.

That's a weird take. Uo is in their spot now because of pknight's money. Whether the serious money started in 1990 or 1996 is irrelevant. Bowerman was never involved in day to day operations. He was all R & D. He and Knight signed their agreement in 68 or 70. His money he put in helped the young Nike (BRS) in a huge way. I don't know the value of where the Bowerman family stock went, but I think high 9 figures. How do you know this about Bowerman?

I was lucky and Moore and I sat next to each other for three hours on a plane.

Who is ignoring sc? Barnes said 2 years ago OSU would never schedule them again (radio interview before the last home game with sc in Reser). Again, wtf are you talking about and what on earth does it have to do with this thread? If by ignoring sc, you mean we will never schedule them again for a verrrrrrryyyyyyy long time, then consider them ignored.

No one, absolutely no one, gives ‘sc a pass. You are going to have to prove that ignorant ignorant post. Just about the dumbest post in the history of fan message boards, congratulations.

I like to keep it simple. My kids can choose any college they would like to go to except......hole, u-dub, and usc.
u-dub we could have a convo about.....the other two, nope. Pretty sure my kids aren't gonna be interested in living in LA anyway. And they are being raised in a duckless environment.
USC's arrogance, and selfishness, along with Phil Knight universities "buying their way to the top" is what is wrong with college athletics.
I'll admit I'm a little jealous, but I'm also genuinely disgusted with whats going on, and don't really want any part of it.

I wanted to hijack your aside to bring back the discussion of an earlier thread before it devolved somewhat. But thank God that Jesse Owens went to Berlin in 1936. He was not scared. He was not cowed. He did not try and make some kind of point by not going to Berlin. Jesse Owens went to Berlin, and he beat the snot out of those Nazi b#*tards. Master race, my ass. Jesse Owens went to Berlin. 1936 Berlin! And Owens won. Four-time champion. And there are guys on here who do not want to play in Eugene, not 1936 Berlin. Eugene. The difference between Jesse Owens and some on this board is so stark.

Wow - so, continuing to present the same arguments from 15 different angles is going to convince the other side - mkay. And when that doesn't work, we just engage in character assassination, name calling and attacking our own. Hmmm................what exactly does that remind me of?
At this point in time, no minds are going to be changed on this issue. You basically are in one camp or another - very little middle ground. And you aren't going to change it.
Meanwhile, the world keeps turning, and Sat August 31st can't get here soon enough. Go Beavs!
