It is on for the next 2 years, after that I am starting to wonder if we should continue the series. With oregon recruiting top 10 and even top 5 classes and the Beavers likely struggling to recruit a top 50 class. The gap in talent is growing and player development will only get you so far. I am afraid the game may not be competitive unless we can get into a major conference in the future. It brings us extra money and visibility, but I am not sure if it is the kind of visibility we want if we are not competitive. Thoughts?
Interesting that soon after Sprinkle took over the UW basketball program, they pulled out of the Gonzaga series, at least for now, He probably figured we are not ready to compete with them yet so why take a loss and help confirm the fact that Gonzaga is the best basketball program in the state. Gonzaga has won 14 out of the last 16 games in the series.

There is a very good chance we will be blown out by halftime by those soul less, money grabbing bastards. Kinda takes the shine off the ceremony |

They want to join a conference on the other side of the country and F OSU while they do it? Well, that sucks, but I wouldn't help them defray any of those financial consequences in any way, shape or form. In fact, I would say the only way I'd even consider changing my opinion on that is if UO pays OSU $40M for any football game, home or away, and then, maybe. I can't get past that enough to even consider playing against them in any other sport. |

OSU was fifth in 2022.
They had a better overall record than UCLA.
That's how it is on the Pac-12 site and Wikipedia.
Interesting how OSU's record usually did not correlate with the recruiting rankings under Erickson, Riley in second stint and JS after he brought the program back up after the Andersen debacle.
OSU was at least one program that showed that decent teams could be built without a bunch of 4 and 5 star guys.
As far as playing Oregon, I'd vote for waiting to see how things play out as far as the future conference situation.

I think the decision should be made by looking at how different this rivalry has become now that they are in the B1G conference. There is no rivalry. We can't stop them from winning their division. They can't keep us from winning ours. It is a meaningless game and calling it the rivalry game or the civil war will not matter. The game will be dead in a few years if we continue to play in separate conferences.
The rivalry is over. Leave the past in the past.

But Iowa and Iowa State have a great rivalry. It is not a meaningless game in Iowa. Yes, I know they are both P4. But they are in different leagues and can't stop either one from winning their division. Same with Georgia and Georgia Tech, Clemson and South Carolina, Florida and Florida State. Playing Oregon sells a lot of tickets. And it is guaranteed to be on FOX or ESPN. I will have no problem continuing to dislike them even though we are not in the same league. Never factor emotion into a financial decision. OMMV, of course. |

There are many sport "rivalries" that have existed across conference boundaries. The schools are in the same state in the same NCAA division and have a long history. The rivalry will not be forgotten, and for many will always be a rivalry.
As for conference standings there are other metrics. If the game is a money maker with reduce travel and expense it's a no brainer. Now, since Oregon will have to pay NC OSU to visit, will they?
And, losing to little old, NC, conference-less, OSU is a huge blot on the national stage. It's possible that losing to OSU could cost Oregon a CFP berth, or at least a higher seed.

I heard from a reliable source that because of the distance of their away games, they will not be trucking all their equipment to the sites. Instead, the charter company they use has bought a Boeing 767 and players, staff, and stuff will all be on the same flight. So expect a few wide-body flights from EUG soon.

I think a rivalry that I would mention to better illustrate the point is the Rocky Mountain Showdown, the Colorado-Coloado St. rivalry. P5 (now P4) vs. G5, not played every year, but nevertheless huge in the state of Colorado. So big that is often played at a neutral site in an NFL stadium. It is an excellent rivalry. There are some differences in that Colorado has been a moribund program during the past 20 years, even after they hired the greatest coach of all time in any sport on earth or any other planet in the known universe, Deion. UO has not had that problem and OSU will have to play a program that has the ability to go as far as any coach they can hire can take them. They have had and continue to have a massive advantage over OSU, an advantage that is likely to grow if OSU doesn't find a landing spot in the P4. I'm not sure if OSU should continue the Civil War. Bit there is precedent to do so. |
