You have to love the the Opinions that come across as fact or that they represent the majority of the fan base. The reality will be determined in the future and will be based on the fiscal aspects of the game. - The CW moniker has become largely fan oriented. As recruiting became national, less and less Oregon players are involved. A few players from Oregon or recruited by both still have that CW "fire". However, for the most part the CW atmosphere is fan based and always will be. - The CW was never based on being in the same conference, or being "equal". But, in the same state and in close proximity... that has not changed and will not. The fans on message boards are far more involved with their programs, but heir opinions on this game are as mentioned above... The casual sports fan will always see it as the CW no matter the angry cries levied on this or any other site. - The CW game itself will exist as long as both parties see it fiscally advantageous. Whether one or the other continues it will be based on that. It will not be discontinued out of animus. Point blank, as pointed out several times, Oregon does not need to host OSU. They have a larger stadium, better national profile and can attract other decent quality P4 teams without paying out more for OSU to show up. Reser is a G5 stadium... beautiful, but OSU can never, without a huge TV payout, attract P4 teams on par with Oregon on a regular basis. And that was true before the realignment and will remain true. - The truly sad aspect of this thread is the "little big man syndrome" represented. The anger of being left behind yet then not wanting to play the type of team that proves you shouldn't have. A team that offers exposure, financial benefits, and an opportunity to gain prominence. The constant comparison to a program everyone knows has major fiscal advantages, while the criticisms are obvious envy to Oregon's circumstantial "luck" in having a huge benefactor with a world-wide appeal. Some here might as well go ahead and blame OSU not having an elite track & field program so Phil might have attended here instead. Guess what... it is the current reality and none of the bitching will change the current set up or if and how the CW game will be played. But, OSU certainly does not have the upper hand in "demanding" any concessions and Barnes most certainly will not toss away the opportunity for a CW home and home due to a realignment decision. It will be the one game every season that is guaranteed to be on a major network and watched by millions more people nationwide. If any of us are being honest with ourselves, we are admitting that the little big man syndrome on display is just being petty because we are pissed off and it seems like there will never be any kind of justice. So we are pointlessly gnashing our collective teeth and spouting off nonsense about somehow sticking it to Oregon. But we are beyond that. There is a new "current reality" and we all can't do a lot more than sit back and watch, and support Oregon State - whatever may come. I bleed orange and black....always will. Doesn't mean I won't lose interest in college athletics. I've mostly lost interest in pro sports over the years for various reasons......some of the same things are unfolding in college. At the end of the day, I've got plenty of other interests to occupy my time. I'll always follow OSU sports, but I may not be as invested as I've been in the past. I'm becoming ok with the thought of that. I have pretty much zero control over what happens.....I don't have the kind of money to make a difference.

I got one even better - make it a really, really, large tax on fortune 500 corporations with head offices in Oregon - and give it to OSU. Last I checked, there were only two in Oregon - Nike and Lithia Motors. If that tax passes, don't be surprised if both those companies leave the state.... And your point is? Just having a little fun - what I think is really sad, is we only have two out of five hundred - we can draw our own conclusions on that one. Nike is only here because of where they started in Beaverton.

Maybe Uncle Phil can fix the roads? He can pave them with rubber soles. I am sure they can dig out of the archives the waffle irons they originally used - scale them up to size - year round traction!

What's clear is that no matter how much of an injustice we feel, it's not going to change a damn thing. So to preserve your sanity, apathy is all you have left and your passion goes to some other interest. It's a shame because those other competing interests really exist because we have disposable income and we are effectively being alienated from college football. I have to wonder if this new reorganization of the elite programs is going to have a net negative result on the sport as a whole, as in the sport is going to shrink in popularity without the small programs for fans to invest their time and money at the level they did before.

I was watching an SEC baseball broadcast a couple of months ago, and the announcers were discussing the demise of the PAC, NIL, portal and conference realignment. I am not sure if it was hubris, or just ignorance, but the way they discussed the issues was both predictable and sad.
To listen to these homers, they honestly believe all of this will not change viewership of college sports, and we, the PEZ dispenser fans will just go along with it. Are they right? We are about to find out over the next few years. I think more than anything, there is an attitude of taking the average college sports fan and their support for granted.

The machine will keep moving forward, and get bigger, and uglier. That's what the NFL is. imo, as it gets less interesting, it gets more popular. I think the vast majority of college football fans either have a blue chip team they root for, or they follow college football, in general, that matters on the national level. The gap widens further between the haves, and have nots....and so it goes

The problem is it never seems that anyone connects the dots. You take the golden age of boxing and look at the state of the sport today - it's inarguably a worse overall experience for the fans, but are any of governing bodies taking notice? Is the sport reorganizing to remove the corruption, to introduce transparent scoring by the judges, etc. Nope. Because at the top, they're still eating.

We can bitch about the state of amateur athletics or we can change the game. As Oregon tax payers, why are we paying taxes to support professional athletes (NIL and other payments), their PERS (if payments are disbursed/controlled by the university), their playing environment (tax payer bonds for facilities) and their development (possibly including education)?
Are the athletes a “non-profit” entity? Spending all their money does not mean they have non-profit status. If they are not a non-profit, then Phil’s $1B of “donations” to U of O over the years is equal to $100M to the State at present tax rates.Take the deduction away and the playing field does not level due to the present disparity in conference media payouts, but it does stop the gap from widening and creates a better opportunity for a recasting of the playing field as well as how tax dollars are spent in Eugene.

There is absolutely zero truth to your first paragraph. Players don’t get PERS and none of your tax dollars is going towards NIL.
