Feels like we match up pretty well based on a total of 5 minutes of research.
Season feels similar to ours - they started 32-5, had an 8-9 stretch to close out the regular season- including going 1-2 in SEC tourney. Then rebounded with a pretty stress free regional.
Starting pitcher ERAs are 3.77, 5.02 and 6.24. Stole 113 bases on the year. Couple guys with some pop. They've have a whole bunch of high scoring games just like us. Should be a great series. Look forward to going on the road and beating up an SEC school.

Biggest difference I see that favors UK statistically is the SB numbers. They've swiped about twice as many bags as the beavs this year, but part of that dip in numbers for us is Travis hit an absurd # of homers and MMD was hurt for much of the year. Our starting pitching on paper has a significant edge.
#s wise we have an edge in essentially every other category except # of times we strike out. Some of that is probably schedule, so should be a really good series.

OSU's offense has been heavily reliant on two things... extended innings due to BB and HR. UK doesn't walk people and has not given up a high number of HRs (66) vs SEC bats. OSU's opponents have up 118 HRs.
UK also fields at a .980 clip and like OSU has RBI guys throughout their lineup.
It's impossible to compare such numbers with the disparity in the opponents. Hence, the key factors to me... UK is at home, 24-6 vs a tough schedule. While OSU will face their best opponent on the road where they are 9-10.
But of course, what do numbers mean. UF needing to win a series @ Georgia to get in to the postseason. Now with a team ERA over 6 and 27 losses win a road regional at OKSt and are headed to a Super...

Kentucky started Dominic Niman and saved their ace, Trey Pooser for Illinois. Kentucky almost blew an 8-0 lead in the fifth. Western Michigan scored five in the fifth and had with two runners in scoring position with one out before Cameron O'Brien came on to relieve Niman. O' Brien allowed two of the three inherited runners to score but struck out the #5 and #6 Bronco hitters to preserve a three-run lead. Kentucky scored two to go up 10-5, but Western Michigan scored three in the sixth to make it 10-8 and had two runners in scoring position. Robert Hogan, the Wildcats' best reliever, came on in the sixth and pitched the rest of the way, striking out the #5-hitter in the sixth. Hogan only allowed one runner in the seventh and eighth but three of the first five Broncos reached in the ninth to load the bases, but the #9-hitter flew out to left to end the game. Pooser was dominant against Illinois, and Mason Moore was dominant against Indiana State. But the first game almost went sideways for Kentucky.

We need that really sharp version of May for Game 1. I know I'm being Captain Obvious here.

Never been around a bunch of UK fans, but I'm guessing Walmart vs Derby? I took my son down to one of his best friends' house for an 11-year-old pool party on Saturday. It turns out that both of the parents went to Kentucky. The wife was a cheerleader there back in the day. I tried chatting to the husband about baseball, but he said that that is sport #4 at best there. He said that most Kentuckians care a lot more about football, basketball, and horse racing. He personally was not invested in the Lexington Regional and did not even have the game on. (Which was something, because he had three different sporting events going on three different TVs.)

This is Kentucky's best season in program history. From what I could tell, there was not much excitement, but that could change now that they did escape the Lexington Regional.

Washington State defeated them earlier this season. At the start of the season, Travis Smith was supposed to be one of the 20-25 best pitchers in the country. He started against Wazzu and gave up four in five innings to put Kentucky in a hole. Kentucky's ace at the end of the year was Trey Pooser, and he started in the pen to begin the season. Smith started the first five weekends but has come out of the pen in six of the last seven appearances. Smith's only start was in the first game of the SEC Tournament, and he gave up one in the first and one in the second before he was pulled. Smith picked up losses in four of his 12 appearances. The first two losses were against Wazzu and Kennesaw State. Smith picked up a loss against Tennessee out of the pen on April 21st. Only two appearances since.
