Since Kentucky is so fast, do we see more Smith than Weber? So I thought Weber was sposed to have the better arm......maybe Smith has a better release? Weber's throws are rarely on target for one, and Tanner I believe has a much better pop time. Part of it is the pitchers as well, more often a baserunner is running on the pitcher than the catcher per se. All that being said, Smith's stats are significantly better at throwing guys out on the season. Weber is something like 2 for 20+ with quite a few errors in the process.
I'm also of the opinion that Weber is not hitting all that much better than Smith currently to justify him getting 2 of the 3 games behind the dish, but that may just be me. In March and early April, yes. Now, not so much.

Thanks......kinda what I thought. Smith has been better. I just remember Weber was sposed to be the better arm....more to it than throwing though. And gotta be accurate. seems like Smiths the obvious choice at this point vs a team like Kentucky

Tanner Smith is 13/24 in picking off runners. Wilson Weber is 2/20. Each has two errors. Smith has an error against Utah and the big error against Nevada, which erased the 10-8 lead. Weber has two errors, one in the loss to Oregon and the other, which allowed run #6 to score (at the time, a 6-1 deficit) in the 11-10 fiasco against UCLA. Weber also has four passed balls to Smith's one. Playing Weber over Smith can be a great play, when you need more offense. But the Beavs really need to make sure that the Wildcats do not run all over us.
