Wait....I thought Gonzaga didn't have a football team? I think weight have more unearned runs than any team since like 2000. Wilky would know.

Lost amidst all the offense, that was a Huge finish for Hutcheson to come in and plug the leak. Not a great start but he did end up retiring like the next 5 or 6 batters in a row.

For the guys really worried about pitching you have to start to adapt for your own peace of mind. No team has an ERA under 3. Oregon state is the last team with an era below 4. Our 3.97 ERA is #10 in college baseball. Our 1.31 WHIP is good for 21st and is 20 pts b hind the leader Arkansas at 1.11. Infact nationally our ERA is our highest ranked stat on either side of the ball, it doesn't look like it but this is top quality pitching in 2024. At the end of the day most of you have it backwards, our offense is fairly mundane nationally and not even top 25 in many stats. Those stats do not show the whole picture. We've also given up 43 unearned runs this year, almost 1 per game. That is not the norm for Beaver baseball. I agree but my post was about pitching which has very little to do with the incredibly sloppy play of defense and errors. Personally I think the worst thing about this team is the 57 errors. The biggest positive change they could make is getting down to 0.5 errors a game for the post season.

Plus OSU has given up what... 29 runs the last 27 innings?? The post season isn't going to be WSU or Gonzaga-like. The 4th seed in our regional will be much better. Tulane (the four-seed in the 2023 Regional) was 19-42. New Mexico State was 23-34 in 2022. McNeese State was 31-30. Cincinnati was 31-31. Northwestern State was not as good as Gonzaga in 2018. The last time that the four-seed in an Oregon State Regional was better than Gonzaga was probably Yale back in 2017. But I still would not say "much better." Better, yeah, but it is close.

8 ?, we are not a top 16 and are a prime candidate to go out at a regional Were #7 We are ranked at 7 because of our name. It's not the play on the field.

We are ranked at 7 because of our name. It's not the play on the field. yup, rankings are almost completely subjective. Only way to find the best team would be for all of them to play each other a statistically significant amount of times. Since we can't play 3500 games a season well just have to be subjective. We're #7.

Wait....I thought Gonzaga didn't have a football team? I think weight have more unearned runs than any team since like 2000. Wilky would know. 2013 472014 312015 30 2016 342017 202018 292019 342020 112021 392022 202023 22 2024 41
2013 Oregon State allowed 44 unearned runs in the regular season. 2013 also had the post 2004 record 61 errors in the regular season, which 2024 Oregon State is still chasing. Three errors in 10 postseason games, though, is how you almost win a National Championship with the worst regular season defense in the past 20 seasons.
I tend to think that Oregon State baseball is on like an 11- or 12-year loop:
2005 Was eliminated by the #4 overall team in Omaha 2006 National Champs. 5-0 in Corvallis. Survived six straight elimination games. 2007 The three-seed from Oregon State's Regional went to the Championship Series and won. 2008 No postseason. 2009 Lost the Fort Worth Regional Championship Game 2011 Lost the Super Regional to an SEC team. 2012 Lost the Baton Rouge Regional Championship Game to LSU.
2017 Was eliminated by the #4 overall team in Omaha 2018 National Champs. 5-0 in Corvallis. Survived six straight elimination games. 2019 The three-seed from Oregon State's Regional (Michigan) went to the Championship Series and (barely) lost. 2020 No postseason. 2021 Lost the Fort Worth Regional Championship Game 2022 Lost the Super Regional to an SEC team. 2023 Lost the Baton Rouge Regional Championship Game to LSU.
Anyway, looking at 2013, Oregon State won the series against Arizona State in Corvallis. Oregon State beat Portland in Goss. Oregon State won the series against Stanford. Oregon State split the two-game midweek series, giving up five in the win. Oregon State was involved in a sweep with Cal. Oregon State beat Portland in the neutral site game. Oregon State lost to Oregon and then rebounded to beat Oregon twice (the first in a shutout and the second giving up two runs) to win the series. Oregon State lost the only midweek game to Oregon. Oregon State lost to Wazzu 10-9, beat Wazzu by four, and beat Wazzu by one, after giving up six, to win the series. Oregon State beat Gonzaga by seven.
In 2024, Oregon State won the series against Arizona State in Corvallis. Oregon State beat Portland in Goss. Oregon State won the series against Stanford. Oregon State beat Oregon twice (the first in a shutout and the second giving up two runs) to win the series, but Oregon rebounded to win the finale. Oregon State lost the only midweek game to Oregon. Oregon State beat Wazzu by one, lost to Wazzu 10-9, and beat Wazzu by four, after giving up six, to win the series. Oregon State beat Gonzaga by seven.
I still expect great things from this 2024 team. It's our year.

Nice post Wilky, thanks for that info. Perennial top teams will have 2-3 CWS appearances a decade. Most of those teams will do so in back to back seasons. I'm curious to see if NIL changes that as teams don't need to develop as much to reload.

Post game Gonzaga today - before boarding the Bus, the Beavs held a team meeting and unanimously agreed, Steve Hertz Field in Spokane is their favorite facility to take B.P.

I am afraid to ask...did we revert back to our great selves by hitting off speed stuff or was it a steady diet of fastballs?
