If they spend less time on social media my guess is the "hate" would be a lot less... - you wouldn't post things people could use to "hate"; - you'd be doing less reading and concerning yourself what others think of you; Of course... that's why most live on those sites. As long as they receive what they want is cool... I'm also glad she included what most of the "hate" is centered on... "do what's best for themselves". Altruism, family, team until...

I don't even get the hate comment or other poster's saying that we're almost crucifying these women. I've seen posters say they're disappointed, confused, dismayed, etc. I've seen other posters say, ok, don't let the door hit you on the way out. But I haven't seen poster sit there and actually just spew hate at them. If that's their version of hate, I truly wish them well because they are going to experience 100X the hate just working in a regular workforce, like us commoners.

If I may return the conversation re: TvO to game play for just a moment, it feels like (to me, in retrospect) the weight of the conference "downgrade" started to weigh on TvO before the season even ended. UCLA was a "one shining moment" for her - ball in her hand in the waning seconds against a storied ranked Pac-12 program.....because a bit after that game it appeared to me much of the time she was laboring, and mostly in a psychological way. Her last games against ND and USC were certainly well off her seasonal averages (combined 4-19 FG, 0-6 3PT, 7ppg), so this departure might have been more thought through and dwelt upon than it appears right now. And she eliminated NIL $$$ as a root cause earlier, and rebuts Rich Burk's (very classy message with little hate, in my books) query around "did the team meet together to discuss?" with an emphatic "yes!". So my working theory is that (primarily) going from Stanford/USC/UCLA/Utah/Colorado class rivals to Gonzaga/<a bunch of "lesser" programs> just didn't do it for the departing players [because by many measures, they had everything else going for them]. And while their current 'family'/fans had to accept the conference relegation thanks to the short-sighted greed of schools south and north of us, *the players* didn't have to accept it. So they didn't. Like I tell my kids, "you get to make choices, but choices have consequences". Here's hoping it all works out for them (in some sense, it likely already has - at that age, the excitement of new suitors in new places with new teams is going to overwhelm any feelings of sadness over departure, modulo the "hate" from jilted fans). In a few decades, some of them might find (in the words of England Dan Seals) "that all that glitters is not gold", but most may not look back and introspect even then (there are only so many Syds in the world). And again - it is their life to live, I just get to root for them. All good - I really liked one of the comments in response to TvO's posting - something to the effect of "you can change your colors if you choose, thanks, I wish you well, but I'm going to be buried in Black and Orange". I think that is how I am going to look at this situation as well, because I'm going to be buried in Black and Orange as well.

I don't think anyone hates them - the hate-speech rhetoric is either a cop-out or a way to justify their decision in their own mind. Moving on will be a relief after this week of torture

Liked his tweets. People that are butt hurt can kick rocks. Exactly! He's a reporter (?) so he has every right to ask questions to "murica's team"

It does seem odd to me that the person most dedicated to the cause of filling Gill and got emotional about it when it happened is the first to choose to leave it behind. Add to that the constant messaging by Rueck about how easy these kids were to root for (which they were)
Breaking people’s hearts tends to bring out ugly emotions; this is indeed an important life lesson.

"Hate" the second most overused millennial word next to "Y'all"

Liked his tweets. People that are butt hurt can kick rocks. One dude (looked like a white guy, must be self-loathing) even implied that, as a middle-aged white guy, the writer has no right to call out the young women. The use of the word hate, to me, says a lot about the education some people get. Criticism, asking questions, etc. is not hate. Hate: Intense hostility and aversion usually deriving from fear, anger, or sense of injury. OED (Oxford English dictionary) I am surprised TVO engaged with the guy. It will only make matters worse.

It only takes the first lemming to start the stampede. Yep, it sounded kind of like a mass suicide to me after reading the TVO comment. Eeverybody sticks around and there's a clear path to the NCAA Tourney for all of them, and odds are they should do fairly well. Split up, and maybe a few of them will get in.
