I thought Burk was fishing for a story and stumbled into big. That "players meeting to discuss portal" is the stuff movies are made out of. I wait to a long read or movie call "The Dirty 8" How an "8 Player from an Elite 8 Team Betray their coach, fans, School, and selves." Or how OSU rose from the ashes in 2010, proceeded to the Final 4, lived through more troubles to rise again, then was kicked to the dirt by Big Media. Part 2 is coming up...

I'm not sure I know the definition of "hate" anymore. If someone comes up to me and says, "What do you think of my new purple shirt" and I say "I think you'd look better in blue" or "I don't think purple is your color". Is that "hate" now? 'Hate' is one of those words that has been so inappropriately overused for so long that its actual meaning has been lost in the fog. It's like 'great.' Tune in any college football game of the 50 or so televised on Saturday, and, in each and every one of them, you will be told that a minimum of 15 different plays have been great - great catch, great tackle, great fake, great block . . . So 'great' simply means means somebody did something properly. In the current wbb situation, I am unaware of anything said that was actually expressing hate. It is a 'go to' word, however, misused by the media, the legal system, and politicians at all levels, even up to the White House. It is therefore not surprising that a 21 year old girl caught up in an uncomfortable situation (of her own making) would use it as a defensive measure. It has no more true meaning than when all of us told our parents we hated them when we were 12 years old.

Exactly. An entertainer telling the audience, none of whom he's ever met in his life, that he loves them. A college basketball player saying we have the best fans in the world and we love them. A politician speaking at somebody's funeral saying that everybody who knew him loved Ed. And on and on.
If you don't 'love' some person or group of people, why, then, you must hate them. Nothing in between.

The seemingly complete lack of empathy towards Beaver Nation by TVO kind of floors me. I'm not saying there weren't some inappropriate responses on social media.....I'm sure there were.....but those are outliers. Most of us are fairly thoughtful, I think 🤔.....but she got very defensive, very fast. It's almost as if we have no part in this AT ALL...we are only here to cheer and hand over our money....we are just supposed to be supportive, and happy for their journey, even though they killed the very program they were a part of. It's just such a a strange time. Each generation becomes more selfish than the last.

I just went to look at the FB thread where they roasted Burk, and couldn't find it. I guess I got kicked out of the group, and blocked for simply saying "I don't see anything wrong with what Burk said.". 😂 I got booted from that page for simply stating, "Just cancel the season." after the covid comedy of errors: play, not play, play.

In the parlance of our times, kinda low key dictator-ish vibes

Any hint of negativity will get you shown the door. Go Beavers!

It's just such a a strange time. Each generation becomes more selfish than the last. I don't do any 'social media' so have no real idea what may or may not have been posted elsewhere. In her original post announcing her transfer, Talia seemed empathetic to Beaver Nation, and I don't have any beef with her there. As previously posted, I have not seen any evidence of 'hate' on this board. Other stuff? Who knows? Don't know if she's got a legitimate gripe, so I won't say anything pro or con. A few comments though: I have never seen a portal announcement by any OSU player that states exactly why they're leaving - just thanks for everything to everybody, and, after careful consideration, I'm outta here. Never a word on what, precisely, was considered and what tipped the scales to transferring. Perhaps the individual would get a more sympathetic response from the fans if they were at all forthcoming. From what I do know of social media (very little), I think you're opening up your life to many people. If you're a prominent D1 basketball player, you're opening up to perhaps thousands of strangers, and allowing them to post comments. It should be obvious in advance to any such person that posting something that will grievously disappoint many of those thousands is going to result in a whole bunch of negative posts, way more than supportive ones. It is also obvious that you can simply delete all of them for a week or two without ever reading them. Don't know what Talia did or did not read, or the source of what she read. If she went back and read this board several months down the road, however, and tried to look at everything objectively, I believe she'd have to admit that, overall, she was treated fairly. And she would would have to concede that she could see why so many people thought the "America's Team, we love each other so much, bought into what the coaches were teaching us, our fans are the greatest in the country" stuff was all an incredible amount of horse s%#t, from her former teammates and from her.

The one thing that has been asked but not answered so far as I know is about the Strength of Schedule (SOS). Rueck did mention at one time that the team would need to strengthen their out of conference SOS in order to keep their rankings next season. But a higher level SOS would cost money, and what if OSU begged poverty and refused to pony up the moola to pay for that schedule? My sympathy for the players would be greatly increased rather than over the harping about being in the WCC.

OSU doesn't necessarily need to pony up if... - they swing some invites to decent preseason tournaments; - they go road warrior and get paid for a few games; Both are better than paying those terrible NC teams to come to Gill. Go .500 vs a tough schedule with nice SOS then win the WCC.
