Its obviously a lie. He's trying to give the impression he wanted to come to MSU because "Its a special place." Not because he got cold feet because of uncertain circumstances. It was impossible for him to answer the question truthfully without looking bad. So instead he looks ridiculous. Lose, lose.

No story with the teaser but the Oregonian is saying on Twitter that Smith claims that the Pac 12 collapse was not a factor in his leaving OSU . So what was ? He's a f---ing liar. He wants to coach a "big time" program in a "big time" league for a "big time" championship. Pac melt down made him feel "small time" I guess.

I understand the financial decision Smith made- I do - but I stopped watching when he mentioned "Building Trust" with his new players.
How can he say that with a straight face? I hope every Beaver player gets to see that interview. I wonder how they feel about the trust they put in him? ' I am livid and cannot watch anymore of his clips or interviews. Traitor - he has no honor.

What bothered me THE MOST about the presser was his admission that he’d been “thinking about it for some time (paraphrasing).” How in FU@k could he lead OSU to success, whilst contemplating leaving? FJS

FJS I don't think it's that tough to dedicate yourself to one thing while at the same time having aspirations. The fact is, he did produce some of the best Beaver Football success stories in my lfie time. Finally a win vs SC in the Coliseum, and a resounding, pound the ball down their throats one at that. One of our most dominating bowl wins and against a storied SEC power program to boot. Ranked seasons, flattened duck in the 4th quarter civil war wins, etc..... I enjoyed them all, and now the expectation and bar are set for the next one fortunate enough to receive the opportunity to lead this program from here.

He was not in negotiations with MSU for any of those events. In the five games where he was apparently in serious negotiations, or at least actively considering the job, we were 2-3 with horrible efforts against Arizona, Colorado and Oregon. Anyone would have dominated Stanford. Washington was personal for him to he was 100% committed.

Really didn't want to talk about OSU......and now all I hear is empty coach speak when he talks This is nothing new. Since the day he was announced as our coach, he's provided nothing but coachspeak in his public addresses. We all had an internal bias because of his past history here and lapped it up anyway, but if you watch any of his interviews or pressers with a neutral eye, he provides absolutely no insight into what he's actually thinking.

The one where he said he has known for weeks and also had to sleep on it was a classic word salad, anyone listening can hear whatever it is they want to hear. He knew for weeks, he didn't know until the last night when he slept on it. Whatever, he is gone, bad luck to him.

I never really enjoyed his pressers. He is awkward. Not a great public speaker. I always just assumed he was a great guy, who was happy to be in Corvallis, coaching his alma mater. Raise his kids in Corvallis......I was definitely naive.... I don't think he was ever going to stick around much longer than he did. He was absolutely using us as a springboard to a higher profile job. We'll see how that goes for him......he says MSU is a great fit.....more empty coach speak. Pressure will be on him to win. He will not get a couple years of grace.

In my mind, I voice-overed Sam Elliott whenever JS spoke; it became rich, nuanced, prophetic.
Without such special effects, the truth: empty, vacuous, cliche-ridden, deceptive.
Heroes to villains can be lightspeed quick, roight?

New from the Register Guard : Michigan State had enough competition from Power Five college football teams also hoping to hire Jonathan Smith that it added a seventh year to his contract, helping a shaken program land the former Oregon State coach.

Ventured over to an MSU forum to see what they be think. They think they hit the jackpot.....maybe they did, time will tell. They were talking about his loyalty, and they could see him retiring a Spartan, unless something like Alabama came available to him....I laughed so hard I almost spit my coffee out!
