Well, that may prevent some of our players from following him.
As for snake, congratulations on joining Avezzano and Gary Anderson in the wretched coach hall of fame. You also tarnished your career here. Never welcome back. Nice job burning bridges you piece of s%#t.

Sorry, but as soon as the remaining PAC 10 imploded this was a forgone conclusion. So - yea any football coach in their right mind - who does not want to become an afterthought when OSU goes from a power 5 conference to relative obscurity for the future - is not looking for brighter pastures, would be an imbecile - he got to negotiate from a position of power going to the 2nd most prestigious conference- and two teams here in the Northwest sold themselves for a lot less just to tag on. All this outrage being shown by Beaver fans is stupid - He landed on his feet instead of going down with the ship - he did great things for our program, and got paid to do it - but why not get while the getting good I think most of us understand why Smith made the decision that he did. Doesn’t mean we have to respect it or the way it was handled, or wish him success going forward.

He’s surprisingly stupid. College football coaching requires a very politically savvy skillset. He’s saying things that not only burn bridges with OSU, but will make his current employer pause, let alone any future employer. I am inclined to now believe his best days of coaching will be at OSU. It really wasn’t hard to leave OSU with parting gracious words with a bit more of a delay, and put all the blame on the conference and say he didn’t want to leave but had no choice and was waiting and hoping for a resolution that never came. He then looks good to everybody. Instead he casually destroys his relationship with his alma mater where he almost walked on water a few weeks before, and signals to every future employer that nothing is sacred to him, including saying the right things to those that paid his paycheck even if it’s BS. Just wild that he’s this bad at politics, and I just think it catches up to him quickly in a place that will forgive little and where things are still similarly stacked against him as at OSU. Worse. He showed that he can half-ass a job while eyeing the next job. No love for the game. No thought for the athletes.

He quit on us.

I don't begrudge that CJS fled the Pac-2, landed on his feet and improved his situation. One has to look out for #1.... But he sure is violating my #1 rule of changing jobs: "Make your departure classy". And now I will forever wonder if the dumb-poop play calls (WSU, UA, UW) that turned a potentially great Beaver season into just a good one were made by a Spartan. Sigh.
Go Beavers!

Just add "I told you so"... when you didn't. Forgive me if I don't go back and check if he posted this conclusion months ago.

All this outrage being shown by Beaver fans is stupid - He landed on his feet instead of going down with the ship - he did great things for our program, and got paid to do it - but why not get while the getting good Don't you get it? It's not so much what he did, but how, and when, he did it, and then he found his alma mater bleeding on the ground and pissed on her. It is obvious to all that he and the staff who left with him had this set for some time. His timing on leaving the ship rudderless and deserting his players could not have been worse, the damage done any more total. And he hasn't expressed even the slightest inclination that the decision was a difficult one. I am reminded of the scene in "The Godfather" where Abe Vigoda's character is to be taken somewhere to be whacked after betraying the family and says, "Tell Michael I always liked him; it was just business." That seems to be Smith's thinking - and yours. If you're in Chicago, you're in Big Ten country. Why don't you 'look for brighter pastures' and become a Michigan State fan?

It's really not his fault. When Riley left it absolutely crushed him so he definately has abandonment/attatchement issues.

This board right now defines exactly why Coach Smith was right to leave.

This board right now defines exactly why Coach Smith was right to leave. Didn't mean to be rude. I'm sure fans are the same everywhere. Fan is short for fanatic appropriately.

This board right now defines exactly why Coach Smith was right to leave. You’re right. At MSU, he’ll just be another coach without a connection to the university. Here, he was a legend and a hero, until he did a very cheap thing.

I hope you all learn not to become so emotional invested in a coach. Just enjoy the game. Don’t get burned time and time again. Think Riley 1.0 but this is worse.
