Are uo and Washington still maintaining that they haven’t delivered a letter of intent to resign from the conference?

Oregon could buy out Idaho, though, and play Oregon State on August 31, September 21, or November 23. I believe that Oregon and Washington have each hollowed out that November 23rd bye, in order to try and jointly schedule Oregon State and Wazzu, respectively, to fill that spot. .......Although Oregon’s schedule does not currently include rival Oregon State, the Ducks theoretically could move or postpone a nonconference game to make room to play the Beavers in 2024. UO athletics officials have maintained their desire to continue the rivalry series against OSU as soon as possible......
2024 Football Schedule Aug. 24 – at Hawai'i Aug. 31 – Idaho Sept. 7 – Texas Tech Sept. 14 – Boise State Sept. 28 – at UCLA* Oct. 5 – Michigan State* Oct. 12 – Ohio State* Oct. 19 – at Purdue* Oct. 26 – Illinois* Nov. 2 – at Michigan* Nov. 9 – Maryland* Nov. 16 – at Wisconsin* Nov. 30 – Washington*

OSU should be looking to schedule games only if it has written off expanding the Pac 2 this next season. I don’t think they have, or they would be scrambling to add games already. Once they’ve written off having an expanded conference next season, expect a lot of scheduling activity. If the rumored reverse merger is happening, there’s no hurry to schedule games yet. I'm pretty sure the intention is to play as the Pac-2 and fill out the schedule with MWC teams. I wish I knew where I saw the quote, but somebody (on X, I believe) posted Barnes saying something to the effect of OSU is looking at a scheduling deal with the MWC, not to join the MWC. Of course, he can't really say that OSU intends to join any conference right now due to the legal proceedings. And joining the MWC is not quite the same as a merger, of course. IMO the long term intention has always been to find a way into or stay in a power conference. Therefore the move forward as the Pac-2 seems to be the answer, as long as the court case comes out positively for OSU and WSU...

Anybody else notice that the brilliant Duck who wrote that said they would have their first Big 10 conference game against Idaho?

Therefore the move forward as the Pac-2 seems to be the answer, as long as the court case comes out positively for OSU and WSU... I don’t think I’ve read anything by Barnes saying his intentions are to just be the Pac 2 next year. There’s a lot of people speculating that, doesn’t count unless he says it. He and Murthy have both been quoted as saying the best option is to rebuild the PAC. I do think I read that Barnes mentioned possibly working out a scheduling deal with the MWC if they couldn’t get it done this year. I’m assuming his preferred option would be to take the top 6-7 MWC teams and fill in with other top G5 schools (Actually I’d bet he’d love to absorb the SEC - not gonna happen) but GOR commitments and getting enough teams voting to disband the MWC get in the way. Failing that, a reverse merger fixes a lot of problems basically overnight, it could also solve the P5 issues as well. If he were seriously pursuing the PAC 2 for a year or two idea it behooves him to have signed game contracts in hand yesterday/today/tomorrow. At this point, the likelihood of being able to get a BCS team to play us at all next season is shrinking, getting them to play us in Reser is even worse. If he’s got a deal for a reverse merger with the MWC set up, signing game contracts with anyone outside of the MWC can be a real problem because it could affect the ability to schedule the newly rebuilt conference. I’m thinking going to other P4 conferences is not in the picture, because they could do it right now if they were wanted. The people who are thinking the Pac 2 are wanting to get all the PAC 12 money then bolt to another league are basically saying OSU and WSU intentionally want to screw the rest of the PAC 12 teams. I don’t think that’s the case. There’s a LOT of moving parts that are basically clogged up by legal issues right now.

People can't want any longer to finalize schedules. Court case is killing us. Only 2 MWC teams have an open OOC game in 2024 and that was due to Army and UCLA moves This is OSU schedule for 2024. 08/31 - Idaho State 09/07 - at Boise State 09/21 - Purdue Boise will probably become a game in the PAC 14 or the scheduling alliance so we need at least two more games OOC quickly. Nobody will schedule with so much still I the air. Mountain West teams with an open OOC game in 2024: Hawai'i Nevada New Mexico San Diego State UNLV Utah State San Diego State and Utah State are the obvious ones, because they are only at 11 games. However, Hawai'i and teams that play at Hawai'i each have an extra opening, because of the Continental United States exception to the 12-game rule. I looked up the schedules on FBS schedules. New Mexico, Nevada, Hawaii, and UNLV have full 12 game schedules. Utah State and SDSU are open but that won't last long. Doubt they want 13 games.

Quote from Hawaiian Mongoose "There’s also the technical matter of whether the Pac can continue on as a D1 conference for one or two years if it has zero members playing Olympic sports in the Pac during that time. Yes, there’s the two-year grace period for a D1 conference to retain its status if its membership count falls below the minimum of seven and if it fails to meet minimum sports sponsorship requirements (including the mandate to sponsor men's and women's basketball). But the grace period provision only grants relief for failures to meet these minimums caused by the "withdrawal of institution(s)." If OSU and WSU maintain they're still in the Pac and the Pac still exists, but neither plays any Olympic sports in the Pac for one or two seasons, then the Pac will fail to meet the minimum sports sponsorship requirements and its failure will be in part due to voluntary actions of institutions that have not withdrawn. It seems to me that the Pac's status as a D1 conference might be immediately revocable on that basis."

That’s part of why I think the merger very well could happen soon after the legal issues are settled. There’s a lot of moving parts just for football, way way more when you consider the other sports. Even after a merger there would have to be some scheduling horse trading because not all of the new schools play all of the sports apparently. The longer things stay in limbo, the harder it will be, waiting 1-2 years could make things much worse.

Baseball, Softball, soccer, basketball, volleyball and gymnastics are Olympic sports, So do you keep the coaches for these Olympic sports on the payroll for two seasons twiddling their thumbs? Some just won't stick around.
What about the current scholarships for these sports What about recruiting in all of this and then rebuilding these teams from scratch again? Recruiting is not in a standstill right now. This is horrible if this is accurate.

Good. No more Civil War. Ever. And no more UW games after this year. We're apparently not part of the grand plan anyway. *Unless we face them in the College Football Playoff or a bowl game.

Are uo and Washington still maintaining that they haven’t delivered a letter of intent to resign from the conference? They’ll be saying that until the gavel comes down, even as their players are suiting up to play Michigan or tOSU.

Saw this on OLive this morning. If it’s just to fill our schedule, then we won’t be able to negotiate strongly and get paid what we are due. If it is to keep the tradition alive, then screw that. It is no longer a tradition and they even say that we aren’t their rival.

I don't want to see a repeat of what the Civil War was like in the 2010s, and for sure what it was like from the mid-70s to the late 90s.

There are also a handful of B12 + defecting P12 schools that have openings now. Utah and BYU were originally playing an OOC game, that's now a B12 game, so they each have an open non-conf slot. WSU already has SDSU on the schedule for 2024 & 2025, we might as well add them too! I think Cal still has an open date. Tricky part in all of this will be finding open dates in Oct & Nov. Ugh.
