Probably better for them.
After they lose to the other osu, Michigan, Washington and 1 other random team, they'll be struggling to cope with their 4 loss season as it is.

Good. No more Civil War. Ever. And no more UW games after this year. We're apparently not part of the grand plan anyway.

People can't want any longer to finalize schedules. Court case is killing us. Only 2 MWC teams have an open OOC game in 2024 and that was due to Army and UCLA moves
This is OSU schedule for 2024.
08/31 - Idaho State 09/07 - at Boise State 09/21 - Purdue
Boise will probably become a game in the PAC 14 or the scheduling alliance so we need at least two more games OOC quickly. Nobody will schedule with so much still I the air.

They only have 11 games scheduled with open dates 9/14, 10/19, and 11/23. I suspect they may try to fill one of those dates with the cougs, but who knows. When the AD was introduced and started bad mouthing the apple cup the school president interrupted him and said something like 'we haven't had a chance to get you up to speed on that yet, we're still in discussions.' gohuskies.com/news/2023/11/2/big-ten-announces-2024-husky-football-conference-schedule.aspx

Hopefully, it is a one-year deal. Oregon State should work to lock down nonconference games with both California and Stanford posthaste. They both have holes in their schedule for 2024.

Mountain West teams with an open OOC game in 2024: Hawai'i Nevada New Mexico San Diego State UNLV Utah State San Diego State and Utah State are the obvious ones, because they are only at 11 games. However, Hawai'i and teams that play at Hawai'i each have an extra opening, because of the Continental United States exception to the 12-game rule.

Oregon could buy out Idaho, though, and play Oregon State on August 31, September 21, or November 23.
I believe that Oregon and Washington have each hollowed out that November 23rd bye, in order to try and jointly schedule Oregon State and Wazzu, respectively, to fill that spot.

September 21 would be highly unlikely. But Oregon State could buy out Idaho State to play Oregon on that weekend.

In looking at it more, Oregon and Washington are the only teams with byes on November 23, 2024, in the Big Ten+8. It seems like that may have been intentional. Sweeps is sweeps. No one should be desirous to not play marquee teams in November.

MWC teams rarely use the Hawaii exemption. They don’t use it

OSU should be looking to schedule games only if it has written off expanding the Pac 2 this next season. I don’t think they have, or they would be scrambling to add games already. Once they’ve written off having an expanded conference next season, expect a lot of scheduling activity. If the rumored reverse merger is happening, there’s no hurry to schedule games yet.
