OK, let's say we go the rebuild route and you are in charge.
Pac-2 San Diego State? Boise State?
Do we (somehow?) try to grab the better programs from the Mtn West and also supplement that and poach some AAC teams?
Can we snag Gonzaga as an affiliate for hoops?
Who else would be on your wishlist?
Grand Canyon (hoops/baseball) and UTSA feel like emerging schools + growing markets...
West OSU WSU Boise St UNLV San Diego St Fresno St
East Memphis CSU UTSA Tulane Rice Utah St? UTEP? Tulsa?
Ugh.

What's the draw for any of the eastern teams to want to come out here and join a conference? For an individual team I can't think of any. Only a Pac-AAC merger would make sense and, assuming the idea was floated, it sounds like they nixed it.
The MWC schools have exit penalties in the immediate future at least. So we won't be able to pick and choose. We have to take (or merge with) the whole enchilada. Penalty aside, ideal world, I would take the ones you list plus San Jose State and probably Colo State.

I feel like we've been over all the scenarios a million times.
Who knows what the hell will happen....
I used to be a huge NFL/MLB/NBA fan......over the years with all changes, based on big money, I've steadily lost interest.......I haven't watched an NBA game in a few years......I play fantasy football which adds some excitement for me, but my interest in that is waning as well.....MLB season just drags on....still dig the postseason though.
I'm not even sure I have a point, other than I feel like my interest in college athletics is likely to also wane, moving forward. If we are continually squeezed out, which has been happening right before our eyes, I don't really want to put as much emotional investment into it as I have in the past. I get too fired up.....and at the end of the day, I have zero control over any of it....
I will always be a Beav, and there is a lot more to life besides college football.

From ESPN, on the fate of OSU and WSU:
"The easiest, most obvious option is probably what will happen: go to the Mountain West as a package deal. Culturally, geographically and -- what is shockingly rare in realignment -- logically, it just makes sense. The more complicated possibility is for the Beavers and Cougars to forge ahead as the two "refounding" members of the Pac-whatever.
"The thought with this route is that it could possibly allow the schools to claim whatever the conference still has, plus additional units yet to be distributed. The question then becomes who can they get to join? None of the MWC schools could justify leaving on their own and the possibility that nine would vote to dissolve the conference to join WSU and OSU for branding purposes doesn't make sense.
"It's hard to imagine either as an independent in football, either." -- Kyle Bonagura
Pretty accurate summation of our position.
The AAC is a total non-starter.

It’s time to press Apple HARD, get a commitment for 15ish+ a team to bring in the entire MWC, make sure the escalators are in place… and get 3 million + subscribers and make everyone who left regret leaving. Along the way. add the University of British Columbia (metro area 2.5 million) to help with those subscriptions, and think hard about a school from Mexico for.even more subscription power.
At this stage, offer the entire MWC to join the PAC and the votes to disband will be there, if 2 or 3 waver on tripling or quadrupling their media money immediately, that’s their problem. IF we get the MWC as a whole AND a good media deal, we can likely poach some AAC individual schools if wanted.

The AAC's announcement makes me think that the Pac-2 is only interested in specific universities and not the whole kit and caboodle. You have to merge with at least of nine of the Mountain West teams, unless you are going to wait until 2026 to pick and choose. (Unless there is something weird like Air Force wants to blow the thing up to go independent or join the American Athletic Conference.)

Pravda says that Communism is the way to go, you say? Dude, the second I listen to what ESPN thinks that Oregon State and Wazzu should do is the second I am wearing a tag on my toe. ESPN is a dinosaur trying to distract everyone from that bright light in the sky. Screw ESPN. The future is what we make it.

Just merge with the MWC and ride it for awhile to see how it works. Its the most fun and kinda only option. Scalping and paying buyouts is dumb.

Apple is stupid if they’d offer us $15 million per school, when the majority of the schools that they are getting currently receive $4-6 million. That would be a bad business decision on their part.

Apple is not stupid, if they make more than the $15 million that they offered. If Apple thinks that they are going to profit on it, $15 million is not too much. And it may the bonus that they have to pay to get the universities to think outside of the big four network box. Plus, you would have to help offset your product's increased travel. You are not buying the product packaged the way that it is currently packaged. You are buying and repackaging what will be an entirely new product. It's like saying that McDonald's or Five Guys or In 'N' Out does not pay a premium to get the best potatoes. And yet they still profit on the deal.

You might have had a point if you didn’t mention McDonalds. The PAC 12 would have given Apple some national exposure. A lot more than the Mountain West. I just don’t think they would make the guarantee that high. I think if you could $10 million with escalators, that would be great.
