I shouldn't have stated it as an absolute that the MWC is not going to become the new Pac and I don't want OSU and WSU to "have to join the MWC to merge." But the reality is that neither the MWC nor the AAC really want to become the new Pac. And it will prove very difficult to make it so. Both Nevarez and Aresco have reportedly made pitches to OSU/WSU to join their respective conferences. To me, that's a no go. The best way forward IMO, aside from joining the Big 12 IMO, is (as I stated): "to join with AAC teams and eventually add MWC teams and maybe others (ACC castoffs?)." This not only keeps a West Coast footprint but adds Southwest/South and East footprints as well. Travel can be kept West and East with championship games/tournaments at one site. It is much more likely to draw bigger broadcast offers and will add strength in numbers as well. Aresco and Nevarez are making pitches, because that's their job. It might be that we work something out, where one or the other becomes the Commissioner of the newly reconstituted Pac-X. However, what they want is and should be irrelevant to what we do. What matters is what the 8-10 best schools in both conferences want to do, because that will determine what occurs, irrelevant of what Aresco or Nevarez want or are pitching. Both Aresco and Nevarez are coming to the Northwest in person, though, to make pitches. I would be curious as to what they are pitching and whether they are being pitched back. Of course it is their job (and it probably is a good sign that they are traveling to the NW to make their pitches). Totally agree that what they want should be irrelevant to what OSU and WSU do. Maybe something will come out of it. But my hope (aside from the Big 12) for OSU/WSU is not in line with what I assume they want, which is to keep their conferences intact (with possible expansion). I want a new Pac that includes the best schools/programs in both the MWC and the AAC. Whether or not that is feasible remains to be seen.

Can The beavers and cougars wear a pac-2 patch on their jerseys this year? They should put out limited edition PAC-2 Beaver gear the day Stanford and Cal announce leaving (assuming they leave).

That's another good question if we somehow pulled off the new conference with members from both the AAC and the MW - who becomes commissioner? Nevarez? Aresco? What about Luck? Certainly not George I'd think.

And it looks like the AAC is off the table...Aresco in his usual "we weren't interested" line...
He may not have a chance if we pick off schools.

Later, we'll look at adding UTSA and North Texas, if they're interested. You're not going to pick off the best teams from the MWC and AAC. Time to face reality. The good news is, we're happy to have you. The conference is geographically relatively compact. Travel is reasonable. Half of the schools are Land Grants. It's a good fit. Oh, and more than likely, Aresco issued that statement because OSU and WSU had already told him that you're joining the MWC. He's just saving face.

I think part of your dream just partially died with the AAC’s statement this morning. Try again.

How do you get that? If we just used the $42 emergency fund...and if the exit fee is still $10 million per school, we could take 4 in the AAC, presuming they didn't pay any of the amount themselves. If OSU/WSU wanted to be blunt, and had the cooperation of other schools, they could get 9 from the MWC and have them vote to fold, and then buy out 4-5 from the AAC...you might not be able to make an East-West division, but you might be able to do a somewhat-North/South division split.

So, the AAC decides to remain within its specific geographical footprint. This is a clear win for OSU and WSU, who I suspect never had any intention of going to the AAC but was nice in at least listening to what they had to say.
PacMount, here we come. Forming or joining a conference with schools who share a geographic footprint and common academic goals as public universities, many of which share land-grant roots. What a concept.
At least everyone hasn't lost their minds.

The reality in the "let's have media conglomerates" run college football era, is we need to find a conference along with WSU. A majority of schools from the Pac Stupid Conference decided to join other conference that don't make sense either historically & geographically.........shame on them. The truth of the matter is the so called big names in the conference have always looked at the Beavs & Cougs, which are small market teams as freeloaders riding their coattails financially.(Once again, shame on them for their petty selfishness for ruining the conference I've loved & followed my whole life.) I'm an outlier on this board who understands the negativity and the sense of loss fans are feeling, but my attitude moving forward is different: Find a conference before the year ends, while kicking ass on the field & saying "bye" to the conference malcontents. Go Beavs.........forever........ no matter the odds.
