Geee, what could possibly go wrong with this idea? Every time I think the realignment saga couldn't get any dumber, it does. How does swapping out 1 to 2 hour flights for your athletes, for 6 or 7 hours flights, for less money make any sense under any circumstance. Is your academic standing so precious to you that you are willing to forego any amount of common sense or fundamental math? For such "smart schools" they are the dumbest bunch in the lot. I kind of, sort of, in a very revealing act of hubris, understand why the wine and cheese crowd at Furd want this, but what in the hell is Cal thinking? They should just put a gun to their own head at this point. Frankly, I think the ACC is doing OSU and WSU a favor. Bay area schools are poison. Cal isn't thinking, they're letting others do the thinking. They're so far underwater in debt, they're grasping at any money but for some reason seem to think rather than get a $15 million media deal (which is plausible), to go for $30 in 10 years. Reading the Cal message boards the past few weeks, they are right up in there in the elitism department. I saw one poster say that if Cal fell to the AAC, they'd bar their kid from enrolling at Cal. Like, WTH? BTW, you don't hold a meeting unless you have the votes. So I guess tomorrow will be a brand new day for OSU/WSU to start a conference. They just held a meeting a Thursday without the votes. You are thinking about single-party police states.

(1) In my humble opinion, the idea of OSU and WSU going independent for 2 years is ludicrous. At the end of that time, our recruiting would have gone completely to hell, our top players in all sports will have left, our coaches as well, and the value we might bring to any other conference would have sunk to unplumbed depths.
(2) As I have said elsewhere, if Stanford and Cal had any intention of being a part of resurrecting the PAC, an announcement would long since have been made by the 4 schools and that process would be well under way.
(3) Like so many of you, I think them going to the ACC makes no sense whatsoever for anybody, so I expect that is exactly what will happen.
(4) I firmly believe that OSU and WSU already have an agreement to bring the whole MWC into the PAC, and, barring any last minute discussions with the Big 12, it will happen within days of the San Francisco bay becoming a part of the Chesapeake Bay. The uncertainty cannot continue any longer, and, at that point, the uncertainty will only exist for OSU and WSU. They will be the only 2 schools in the country unable to tell recruits where they might be playing in 2024.
(5) Whole thing will be settled before kickoff of the UC Davis game.

Over the past couple of weeks we have grabbed any tweet, comment, article, quote, etc..that had us staying as relevant as possible. In the end we are going to be going where most of us didn't want to go - with MWC teams. Tiring and disappointing.

If it's the MWC and everyone comes, I'd like to also snag 4 AAC teams from larger markets and set up east and west divisions. If north and south divisions even up the travel better, go that way. For some reason, I think it may be easier to snag 4 than 2. Bringing in schools from bigger TV markets could help with the TV contract or streaming subscription numbers depending on which way the Pac goes.

It would probably be a wise thing if all of us, including me of course, moved past disappointment and anguish about partnering with the MWC, and tried to move on to acceptance and trying to focus on the good things about it. If the Big 12 has a change of heart, we can still be elated; if, as is more likely, they don't, at least we will be past the weeping and the gnashing of the teeth.

Give him 2 weeks to think about it. Or give me 2 weeks so I don’t have to read his gloat posts when this all goes down bad.

I would personally rather travel to Boca Raton, Charlotte, Houston, Memphis, New Orleans, San Antonio, and Tampa. But a conference with nine of Albuquerque, Boise, Colorado Springs, Fresno, Fort Collins, Las Vegas, Logan, Reno, San Diego, and San Jose would also be great. Oregon State has multiple great paths forward. Just have to put something together, where the numbers work out.

As I have said, repeatedly, I know all of this is hard for you guys. If you end up in the expanded MWC (even if it's called the PAC-14), yes, I will be back, but not to gloat. I'll be here to cheer you on. I will root for the Beavs in every game, except against the Aggies. No gloating, just genuine enthusiasm for a great new conference mate. If you end up making a very bad choice, traveling all the way across the continent to play the refugees from the Sun Belt and Conference USA in the badly diluted AAC, I'll still be cheering for you. You see, I live less than an hour from Corvalis. With the exception of Michigan State, Ohio State, and I guess Cal, I always cheer for the Land Grant, even when they'd rather I didn't. I don't have any educational ties to any school in Oregon, but I have adopted Oregon State. I am now officially the booger you can't flick off... Go Beavs! Go AGGIES!
