Nothing new here and nothing we haven't already vented about, but still spot on, and very depressing. nymag.com/intelligencer/2023/08/college-footballs-sad-last-dance.htmlThe writer is also dead on about the fact that there will be more small market casualties like OSU and WSU in the future. We are the canaries in the coalmine. This sport is dying.

When it comes to the current popularity of college football, ESPN and FOX $$$$ is killing the goose that lays the golden eggs. Exactly what a lot of us here have been predicting for the immediate future of CFB.
But I would add one major factor: in the not too distant future, there will be a building demand for a return to many of the old rivalries and traditions. Old conference and institutional associations and traditions will start to reappear...and sooner than anyone would have anticipated.

But in 5, 10, 15 years our athletic budget will be so decimated we will be starting from scratch. Those that got the money during those years will be much richer, much stronger.

Not sure that "decimated" is the correct word. SDSU's budget last year was $65 million and ours was $83 million. It will certainly be less, but we have revenue from a lot of other sources than just the core TV contract. I think the AD is going to have to persuade our donors to ignore donating to our NIL collectives and get back to just donating to the core athletic programs. We're currently barely making a dent in NIL anyways in compared to the big boys.

I'm coming to grips with the fact that will be trying to be the kings of the MW. Good excuse to go to Reno, and Boise every other year for road trips.....and hopefully no longer playing hole.....they can pound sand.

"... to begin at the beginning, to restart from the beginning or to start over with no source of aid." Nope... not even the remotest possibility! Congrats... of course the doom & gloom crowd must stick together! But, when the shoe fits🤪

Yes, but continuing to bitch about it over and over isn't going to chance that. Fans have no control over it. Be a fan or don't, but the complaining isn't changing anything.

Baghdad Bob? Everything is OK? Gtfo here dude. Back at ya DB. Not surprised... dude fits with the DD crowd: "I’d be done with college sports. Well… sports in general because Beavers sports was all I cared about." "It's over. Nobody wants us." Just two of his enlightened posts. So, screwed, no chance to succeed, left behind, programs going to just fall apart as coaches and players leave in a mass exodus. I guess OSU might as well finish out the '23-24 athletic year and sell off all the gear, rent out Reser and other venues, and just have club sports??
