If he was poached by u dub he'd never be able to show his face in Corvallis again I'm sure he wouldn't mind. I mean, he never showed his face in Logan again after OSU poached him from USU. His parting gift to the Aggies was, with one foot out the door, hiring the worst men's basketball coach at USU in the last 40 years. By the way, I really don't want any of this to be taken as animosity towards OSU. I know you would rather have a better option. I just don't see one. I think you're going to be in the MWC; possibly renamed the PAC-14, but basically the MWC plus OSU and WSU. Here's the thing. We'd be thrilled to have you. You're a great fit. You'd make less money, but it takes a lot less money to compete in the MWC. Why wouldn't you want to be in a place where you're wanted, with, and again, I know you don't like to hear this, very similar schools? Thanks for the input on Barnes. I really like what he has done in all sports. However, I am still supremely concerned that he has absolutely no business selecting basketball coaches. His track record is beyond abysmal. I am not going to countenance any fire Tinkle nonsense until Barnes is in the rearview mirror. Until then, Tinkle should have a lifetime contract. 0% chance that Barnes has the ability to find anyone better.

Honestly, if we end up in the MW, which looks inevitable, I will probly lose a fair amount of interest...... especially if that directly results in the derailing of our up-and-coming program. I feel like my whole life I've been fighting against the assholes down the road, and right now, it feels like they won. Greed, money, power, has taken over college football completely. No traditions are sacred. The Pac 12 was sabotaged by its own members, which leaves 4 of us completely cut out of the mix. So no offense, but I'm still pretty pissed that we are in this position, and I don't want to battle for the table scraps. All that said, I totally get you perspective.....this is an opportunity.....for us though all I see is the potential for our football program to go from contender, to irrelevant, along with the rest of our AD.

Aggielarry makes a good point though. We're all still mired in the throes of anger, despair, frustration, and despondency, and we feel a great sense of betrayal by the scumbags who have done this to us. At the end of the day, however, we're going to need to get past all that and look to the future.
And that future is most likely not going to include the scumbags. Eventually, we might be very happy that it doesn't. Our only national championships in the lifetime of anybody who's not on Medicare have been in baseball. Our baseball program can continue to be a national powerhouse outside the P5, just like Gonzaga's basketball team. Other programs can as well.
Life will go on, and it will still be great fun to root for the Beavs.

Maybe I’m weird. I’ve never gone to, watched on TV, listened to on the radio or streaming, or followed the team specifically because of who we are playing. I’ll admit I was kinda excited about the LSU game way back when though. I’ve really no interest in going to games in Seattle, the Bay Area or the LA Area. The Mountain West really actually kind of fits the bill for road games pretty well as my wife and I roll into our retirement years. Probably much better than back east. I get the feeling once we get into a couple seasons of however the league looks post Pac 12, new rivalries will form and fans will come to better accept the new make-up of the conference. I hope so anyways.

At the end of the day, if we can continue to be relevant in baseball, and they dont keep whatever conference we are in from getting into the CFP, I'm down......I'm just not sure how I will handle it if we lose Smith, and our baseball program fades because of greed, and a poorly run Pac 12......that is super f%#*ing frustrating! I'm not done being pissed! Sorry

I don't get the ho-hum optimism about our baseball program.
When it comes to baseball, the Mountain West SUCKS. Getting saddled with teams from that conference will cut our storied program off at the knees.
We're in deep sh!t here folks, on multiple fronts, and I honestly don't see any way out of it.
There's a reason Stanford will accept a $0 media cut to avoid getting saddled with that conference. Honestly, I think we should be pursuing similarly drastic measures....

If Oregon State wants to avoid the Mountain West teams, the Pac-4 should merge with the American Athletic Conference. The American Athletic Conference is ninth in RPI. A majority of their teams are better than Utah. The Pac-4 could add Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, Memphis, SMU, South Florida, Tulane, and UTSA. SMU does not have a baseball team. Charlotte, East Carolina, Florida Atlantic, and UTSA have better baseball teams than California or Wazzu. Plus, you can use trips to the Southeast to set up midweek games with high-RPI teams in the Southeastern United States. It can work out great.

The only team relevant to what I said is Fresno...and they finished last year with an RPI of 175. They caught lightning in a bottle for one magical postseason run, 15 years ago. Since then? Nothing. Not a single team in the MWC finished with an RPI higher than 100 last year. Merging with some or all of the MWC will be the death knell for our baseball program. As Wilky points out, the AAC is a different story. If we care equally about baseball as we do football (which we should). we should be lobbying hard to focus way more on the AAC than the MWC.
