Yes, just like that. With even (much) less resources why would we be any better than Boise or SDSU? I think a lot of assumptions are being made that we would walk all over the MW......in reality, when/if we end up there, we will lose our coach, and lots of talent, then have to rebuild in that environment. Do you realize that if you remove the current $21 million from the TV contract that we would have roughly the same athletics budget as SDSU? Again that's with zero media contract. I don't think that it's as dire as you think. We are not going straight back to the 70's and 80's resources here. Do you think we keep Smith if we go to the MW? Who will replace him? Remember, we had Ando pants before Smith. If we have a good season, and end up in MW someone will poach Smith, period. That is very frustrating to me. Maybe I'm a pessimist......I mean Im a Beav so I come by it honestly I guess......I just don't see the good in merging with the MW ....at least not initially. I see it gutting our program, and then we kinda start over

Chris Petersen stayed at Boise State long past his expected departure date. Mark Few is still at Gonzaga.
Speculate all you want about Smith, but only he knows what's best for him.
All the experts, etc., etc. say that both Beavs and the Cougars are totally screwed.
Unfortunately, a lot of Beavers and Cougars are saying the exact same thing.

Yea, and people on here.....I wont name names, think that Smith isn't necessarily a hot name in the college football coaching world......that's pure ignorance! Yea, maybe he will stay with less money, and resources. If anyone would, it would probly be him......but if a big payday is dangled in front of him, at a blue blood......I'm just sayin

He's not going to be making "less money." His contract is guaranteed and legally protected. OSU can't just cut his salary willy-nilly.

He's got a very good salary and contract, and he's still quite young in the overall scheme of things. He's got a couple/few years to wait for the right situation to come along. He's probably going to get a lot of inquiries if the Beavers have a good year, but I kind of doubt he's in a hurry. The "right" situation comes along and there's not much we could do, even if the league had remained intact.

Sure......but if relegated to the MW other offers will definitely be more enticing for him I would imagine.

Some with far more confidence and belief in our university, programs, and staff.
