tOSU makes about $7.1 to 8.3 mil per home game. NC opponents get a tiny share and still have to pay most of their expenses. Sometimes a hotel will have a deal with the host school that can cut costs. Some schools have contracts with an air carrier to off set normal pricing. The same can happen with local food providers. OSU was probably lucky to net 1.1-1.2 million. "Ohio State will pay $1.7 million to Oregon State for its season-opening game at Ohio Stadium on Sept. 1," Not as big of payday as most think. By the way Tulane received $1.5 mil that same year for their Sept. 22nd visit. Bodybag games may return to our modus operandi if we are going to play in a MWC type conference. Will need to employ a Boise State/Fresno State "anywhere anytime" mentality.

Is there an option where we get to keep Smith as our coach? I want that one.

Option #1. I don't want to pay to watch San Jose State, New Mexico, Air Force.... Yeah, way better to watch us get trashed by Ohio State! Most likely we will be getting trashed by Ohio State, LSU, Michigan....maybe 2 times a year, but at least they will always be road games, so you don't have to pay to watch.

And, a solid NC revenue game, RPI builder doesn't have to be tOSU or UM, or Georgia, etc. Money to be had at Wisky, Minny, UMiss, A&M, etc. Schedule those large stadium 2nd level SEC, B10 teams. And, if a UCLA comes calling... it's home & home... $2.1 mil @, $1 mil home payout. SC... maybe double! Same with Zona, ASU, Utes. Eff the no shows for the Pac 9 meetings... UW, ucks.

He'd have to have a Chris Peterson run of 7-10 seasons to have the elite arse wipes think he's worthy. And, with his family being young and his ties to OSU, I'm thinking he's not going to be lured to a SEC, B10 rebuild.

Don't worry everyone. The longer this goes on where we don't have a conference to call home, the better our options will be in the end.(*sarc)

Ummm, he's already considered one of the top young coaches in the country......and we are looking at a potential big season......and a huge loss of revenue......I expect to not be able to keep him....I could be wrong, but we just won't be able to pay him, period

But, I'm not sure JS is seen as a top young (under 40 type) nationally as OSU fan thinks. Again, complete guess, but JS could be, someday, be considered for mid tier or lower B12, B10, SEC job. Just don't see him leaving for that. And, he'll get paid more than adequately for living in Corvallis. To be honest... HC do far less "coaching" than most realize. Losing assistants is a far bigger concern of mine. JS's best job has been building this staff.

The longer this goes on where we don't have a conference to call home, the better our options will be in the end.(*sarc) The interesting thing is that the 4 remaining Pac12 schools are going to pick up quite a war chest of exit fees. Could be 200M and more in it. If the Bay Area schools leave, then WSU and OSU get it all.

What Smith has done at OSU, in short period of time, after Ando pants turned us into arguably the worst D1 football program in the country, is nothing short of miraculous......the college football coaching world is a small world.....I guarantee he is on a short list for a lot of schools.....and yes, losing assistants will suck, but good programs keep rollin.

And that will be reinforced by what most likely will be a pretty good season this year. If it's a great season, as in Pac-12 title great, he'll be getting calls right away. There will be some pretty big numbers offered. Not saying he'll go for it, at least right away. But if he's facing a future in the MWC as opposed to a decent P4 job, who knows?

It's hard to discuss this because... - definition of "next level; - anything that's not within said definition will be considering dissing on the program; That said, one 10 win season, a dominate bowl win over the FL JV team, one big time portal transfer, picked 5th(?) in Pac12 preseason poll... and OSU is "primed" for what exactly? Is the program much better? Yep. Is it anywhere near an elite, next level program? Nope. Coming off a 10-3 season, new Reser is indeed exciting, but... let's just not get over our skis too much.
