I'm not sure that travel is that big of deal to these kids today. Today's kids play travel baseball, hoops, soccer and they are used to flying all over the US to play in games from the time they are in their early teens. Just saying.... When you are trying to go to college and you're flying completely across the country every other weekend, leaving Wednesday or Thursday and not returning until late Sunday, I suspect it will get old very fast. Especially since every sport except football will generlaly fly commercial, which we all know is a true joy. That's the Stanford/Cal to the ACC model. It's also the Pac-12-to-Big Ten model, except they won't be flying quite as far, or quite as often since they will have 3 west coast opponents, not just one.

It's not "travel"... it is the overall time involved in most travel... prep/backing, to and from airports, bussing to your 2nd game site in terms of hoops, etc). These kids are supposed to be going to class, and online classes take time also. Add in practice, walk thrus, team meetings/meals it is a abrupt change to their schedules. We all hear about the overall team GPAs, and scholar athletes. But, that is not the case for the majority of student athletes, and that is with tutors, online assistance, sometimes limited in-season course hours leading to extra off-season/summer course hours. Football maybe has it the easiest... usually (6) total trips to one location.

Biggest question is IMO, what fills Reser? What generates excitement in our fanbase? And maybe most importantly, what generates interest in a FUTURE OSU fanbase? Playing Wyoming/San Jose State's or Kansas State/BYUs every year? IMO our fanbase continues to dwindle if we go the MWC route. Going the big12 way, at least we can get maybe a 40-60 percentage split of new fans versus UO, than almost zilch if we go MWC. might be a new thread ... but what hasn't been brought up is... is the level of competition that much better in the big12? Just how much "harder" is it to get to a playoff spot in the big12 vs the MWC? Especially if the big12 gets two guaranteed spots. And, we would still have to travel to Boise and Fresno in odd years... likely losses enough to knock us out of consideration right there. Winning games, winning conference championships, winning bowl games, the same as before. The Big 12 isn't calling. Don't waste your summer praying in vain for a savior to rise from these streets. well now I’m no hero that’s understood , all the redemption I can offer you is beneath this dirty hood, with chance to make it good somehow, hey what else can we do now

Things happen in the order they need to happen. It's not our turn yet.

How would being in a non major conference get us more bowl money? Well, there's no payout if you don't make a bowl game at all......

I hope y'all aren't just assuming that if we end up in a lesser conference that our program will look like it does today......cuz it won't. We could end up in football purgatory, just as easy as do well.

With even (much) less resources why would we be any better than Boise or SDSU? I think a lot of assumptions are being made that we would walk all over the MW......in reality, when/if we end up there, we will lose our coach, and lots of talent, then have to rebuild in that environment.

Do you realize that if you remove the current $21 million from the TV contract that we would have roughly the same athletics budget as SDSU? Again that's with zero media contract. I don't think that it's as dire as you think. We are not going straight back to the 70's and 80's resources here.

Might lose our coach and some talent. There’s no way to know what will happen. You’re just guessing like everyone else. Will coaches and talent have opportunities, of course just like they probably would if OSU stayed in the Pac-12. Will they be looking at possible pay cuts to stay, maybe but it’s not like they might not be looking at pay cuts to take other jobs as well. A ton of jobs, or positions, didn’t suddenly open up because of this realignment. I don’t think anyone can really know how these changes are going to affect staffing and player retention yet.

I am advocating that the remaining four stay together and using Oliver Luck, and the many outstanding previous AD's still available, go for building the PAC ? up again.
What if that effort fails? Then the fall back position of Mountain West will likely still be there.
All the experts, etc., etc. say that both Beavs and the Cougars are totally screwed.
To h--- with them all, think big time and gamble that a conference on the West Coast done "right" can end up being better than the totally greed driven recent $$$$ only matters conferences.
Go Beavs
